The smoker is gonna put in the work today!

First will be hickory smoked bacon for Rural Resources' Incredible Farm Dinner. Thank you JB Farms for donating the belly, it is going to turn out great! It will be a great evening supporting a fantastic organization!

Then comes the main event. Our next Seasonal Feature is coming soon and it is something to get excited about. We are smoking then braising 24/7 Ranch Grass Fed Beef chuck roasts with Old Goat Coffee Roasters Cabra Rapida espresso, pairing it with our cheese blend, horseradish spread, and pickled red onions then serving it on grilled sourdough.

A big thank you to MC Land & Property LLC for supplying the wood. Matthew has separated and split logs for our hardwood blend, I couldn't do this without good quality logs.

Free smells available until 2 today in front of Deans hardware and Mosheim Medicine Shoppe!

It is time for another session of tailgate talk at 24/7 Ranch Grass Fed Beef... A very hot topic in the cattle world right now is HEIFER RETENTION. That's the only way we can rebuild the cow herd in 🇺🇸 America. Well folks, there is a reason cow men call them heifers!!! Heifer retention and development is a very expensive endeavor for the average producer. Let me explain further. There is different data from several universities but on average right now it takes about $1200.00 a year to feed and keep 1 head of cattle. So that heifer calf is born, she is on her momma until she is weaned at about 6 months give or take. At 6 months you don't have a much in that heifer calf if everything goes well. Then you wean that heifer and she is now on your feed bills. She gets a few rounds of calf vaccines and she is just eating up until she is about 16 to 18 months old. We try at that point to get her with the bull to produce a calf hopefully somewhere around her second birthday (that's what we shoot for in our commercial herd). So up until now you have $1800.00 in this heifer that hasn't produce a calf yet, that is assuming she has not required extra fed ($500-600) or a vet visit ($350-800). Now this is where it gets risky. There is a good chance that heifer could loose her first calf (stillborn). There is a good chance you could loose that heifer and her calf in the process of calving. There is a good chance you could have to pull that calf since its her first one. There is a good chance she will reject the calf and not let it nurse thus leading to a bottle calf, another expensive endeavor. Let's say she has a great first calf experience. It is still 6-8 months before you can get her first calf weaned and ready for sale. So your looking at about 32 months($3000.00 assuming no extra feed and no vet bills) on the feed bills before you get anything back. Heifer retention and development is a risky and expensive endeavor in any operation. As tight as things are with inflation right now and fuel prices right now, the average producer is looking for ways to eliminate expensive endeavors and high risk decisions!

24/7 Ranch Grass Fed Beef coming to you live from the tailgate. People in America want to know why Beef is so high right now... Well let me reason with you a little bit. If you haven't seen the price of on road diesel lately its averaging about $5.50 per gallon around here. The price of off road diesel (ex. cherry flavored for tractors only) is over $4.00 a gallon! There is no reason in the world that diesel should be more than $1.99 per gallon and gasoline more than $2.99 in 2026, unless we're being lied to by politicians! The bag pictured on the left is a bag of cattle minerals. I go through about 12 of those a month. I typically buy 4 to 5 bags at a time. Those bags cost about $125.00 right now, but a few years back they cost $50.00. Pictured to the right is a hydraulic hose about 5 feet long. I had to buy 2 of those last week for a hay mower as I was putting up hay. Those 2 hoses cost me $214.00. About 3 years ago those same hoses would have cost me $75.00. It is the little things like this that add up. Farmers and Ranchers are not capitalizing on these high beef prices, trust me! Support your local farmers and ranchers! Don't trust politicians!
