Poultry in Motion We have a small flock of truly free-ranging chickens and ducks. They produce enough eggs to keep our family and friends in good supply.

We'll be butchering our first group of meat birds shortly and hope to be taking orders soon! Chicks and older birds occasionally available.

Duck owners often complain that their birds don't lay very well. Many times, I have had to encourage them to look harder. Unlike chickens, ducks tend to bury their eggs.

This year, I have hatched out 112 birds of three different species. I use a cheap incubator. My hatch rate is 95%.

Just moved the little duck, the turkeys, and half the Icelandics to my fenced-in garden (which already has guineas, Appenzellers, and Cochins). They stay outside during the day, and I bring them in at night. It is always a relief to not have to monitor the brooder for food and water. I don't know what other people have problems with a mixed flock. I never do. I suspect the problems are mostly due to space issues.

YoYo is a baby mallard. He was found and rescued by two nice ladies who found him at a busy intersection after a YoYo Ma concert. He was alone and terrified. Now, he lives with a bunch of chicks!
