What you’re looking at might seem a little strange… but it’s actually a sign of something amazing happening beneath the surface.

That bright yellow “dog vomit slime mold” popped up in our tomato garden thanks to one thing: healthy, living soil built from mushroom compost.

Here’s the cool part 👇

At Tilted Cap Mushrooms, we start with byproducts from other industries—primarily sawdust and soybean hulls. Materials that are often waste products for other industries become the perfect foundation to grow nutritious, gourmet mushrooms.

After we harvest the mushrooms, the journey isn’t over.

That same nutrient-rich substrate gets a second life in our gardens—helping grow strong, productive vegetables while feeding beneficial microbes in the soil. And sometimes, you’ll even spot fascinating organisms like slime mold doing their job breaking everything down and recycling nutrients.
