🐐 Charlie & Norman Are Hard at Work 🌾

Our boys, Charlie and Norman, have been busy making their way through the millet field. What looks like snacking is actually helping us create natural pathways and manage vegetation the homestead way!

The millet has grown tall, and the boys have been enjoying the challenge of working their way through it. Before long, we'll be introducing the girls selected for breeding, and Charlie and Norman will have an important job to do.

For now, they're focused on eating, exploring, and proving once again that goats are some of the hardest-working members of the farm. ❤️🐐

Need an idea for all that zucchini and squash? 🥒
This week we turned some of ours into crispy fritters using shredded zucchini and squash, canned tuna, an egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix everything together, form patties, and fry until golden brown.
Simple ingredients, quick preparation, and a great way to use fresh garden produce.
If you're looking for fresh zucchini or squash, stop by the farm stand! Every purchase helps support the homestead and the care of our animals—including goats like Ruth, who recently needed emergency veterinary care.
What's your favorite way to use zucchini or squash?

🌱 Garden Update 🌱

Every gardening season comes with wins and losses, and this year has been no different.

Not everything we planted thrived, but the cucumbers, squash, and zucchini have been keeping us busy harvesting!

This photo of Earl standing beneath the cucumber-covered arch is a reminder that even when some crops struggle, there is always something to celebrate in the garden.

Gardening teaches patience, flexibility, and gratitude for every harvest we bring in.

What has been your best-performing crop this year?

🦋 A little beauty from the flower patch. 🦋

One of our favorite surprises this year has been seeing how many butterflies have discovered our cutting garden.

While we grow flowers for bouquets and beauty, they're also providing food and habitat for pollinators that help support the entire homestead ecosystem.

Sometimes the best harvest isn't something you can pick—it's watching butterflies dance through the flowers on a summer morning.

Have you noticed more butterflies in your yard this year?

🐐 Ruth Update 🐐

Yesterday morning, we thought we might lose Ruth.

She suffered a sudden medical emergency, possibly after ingesting a poisonous plant, and her symptoms closely resembled kidney failure. It was a frightening day filled with uncertainty, veterinary visits, and a lot of prayers.

Today, we're thankful to report that Ruth is doing much better. She's eating on her own, peeing normally, and even running around again. While she's not completely out of the woods yet, her progress in just 24 hours has been encouraging.

When animals in our care need help, we do everything we can to give them the best chance possible. Emergency veterinary care is never something we budget for, but it's part of the responsibility that comes with stewarding these animals.

If you've ever purchased vegetables, eggs, soap, or other products from our farm stand, you've helped make care like this possible. Your support directly impacts the lives of the animals here at Harris Homestead, and we're incredibly grateful for that.

As for the photo? That's Ruth attempting to eat a laptop. Apparently she feels well enough to return to her usual hobby of trying to taste-test anything that isn't food. 😅

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support. ❤️

A huge thank you to Clear cut tractor and Equipment Services LLC for an outstanding job clearing our front acre after the logging was completed.

They worked tirelessly to remove every stump, clean up the debris, and make sure the job was done correctly. Their professionalism, hard work, attention to detail, and commitment to quality were evident every step of the way.

They'll be returning soon to properly burn the two massive brush piles that remain. Once that is completed, we'll be able to move forward with fencing the area and creating another pasture for our goats.

We truly appreciate working with businesses that take pride in their work and treat a project as if it were their own. Thank you for helping us take another step forward here at Harris Homestead of FL!

Every sunrise is a reminder that we get another day to grow, learn, and enjoy this beautiful life we've been given. 🌅
The animals are waking up, the garden is stretching toward the light, and another day on the homestead begins.

We are officially less than TWO WEEKS away from welcoming Sir Wi******er home! 🐾

Our future Anatolian Shepherd livestock guardian dog is already growing like a w**d. His last weigh-in, just one week ago, was an impressive 26 pounds!

We are excited to watch him grow, learn, and eventually join our livestock guardian team here on the farm.

A huge thank you to RHL Farms for raising this handsome boy. We can't wait to meet him in person!

Who else is excited to watch Sir Wi******er's journey?

Never ever say "We will relax and have a quiet day today" when you own a farm. Huge jinx. Had a woman come for raw goat milk for her orphaned goat. Then we were going out for a nice lunch. Earl went to feed the bottle babies. He texted me to come now. Ruth was refusing to eat. Had trouble standing. Was lethargic. I called Cairo Animal Hospital as we loaded Ruth and Sara (for moral support) On the way there Ruth began explosive diarrhea and Sara wished we had left her home.

The staff at Cairo Animal Hospital was amazing. Testing was as needed. Results showed parasites clear, next test done. Nothing done without explaining to me. They handled Ruth with love. She put her hoof on the young man's hand while she nuzzled into him. She smelled horrible from the diarrhea she had laid in and he did not pull away. Heading home with a bunch of meds and instructions and our lucnh was Dairy Queen. The best that can be determined she ate a poisonous plant as her kidneys are showing issue and white count is low. So all your purchases from this week and the coming few weeks will be going to help us pay the credit card for her emergency treatment. With that we could use prayer please as she is far from out of the woods. At least I know if needed Dr Ritchterkessing is just a phone call away all weekend.
