We are back safe and sound from Georgia National Fair dairy goat show!

We had such a wonderful time with our dairy friends, human and caprine!

We of course did not take enough pictures, but we were able to get these two of our Fischer Family Farms: Nubian Dairy Goats girls!

Fischer FF MM Holiday took Junior Grand Champion, and Fischer FF MD Ever After took Junior Reserve Champion!

We were also so excited to see our two younger juniors in the 8-12 month old class - MH-GHF Maleficent took 2nd place out of 6, and Brushwood Creek Nubians’ BW Creek KON Peggy O’Paisley took 3rd!

We are so happy with our herd, and are looking forward to kidding season when we will have our first Half Acre Wood kids out of these amazing animals.

It's BACK!

For those of you waiting for another Sourdough Bagel class to come along, we have finally posted it!

November 7th at 10:00 a.m. GrannyKat's Apiary Supply & Bee Learning Center will be our next Sourdough Bagel class!

We wanted to post our girls in a series throughout the week, but the weather had other plans! So here they are, all at once, our show lineup for the Georgia National Fair coming up early next week! ⭐️

We will be updating our breeding plans in the next week or so, as some changes were made and we are starting to get pregnancy confirmations. We are not taking reservations this year since we will be retaining several kids, but we do have a waiting list for anyone interested in a doeling. We will not be selling bucklings out of first fresheners.

Now on to finish packing! 🫣

This October, Ringside is launching a mini-series of episodes allowing us to get to know the breeders behind herds we all admire and appreciate. We will focus on how they got here and the experiences that led them to where their herd is today. Throughout the series, Jon and Danielle will talk with them, going beyond pedigrees and show records to discuss how breeding programs are built.

Why did we start teaching sourdough?

With the rising cost of EVERYTHING, we wanted to give our community the skills to make their own bread and cut costs! We know everyone doesn't have an interest in baking, but the ones who do and are just nervous to start, we want to help you!

It costs us $2.68 to make our white sourdough sandwich loaf. It costs us $3.82 to make our brioche sourdough loaf. This doesn't include the cost of maintaining our starter, and does not include the amount of time that goes into feeding our starter everyday. It also doesn't include our baking days, which start with dough-making on Tuesday evening, and continue on into Wednesday, when we don't stray from the kitchen oven for the entirety of the day.

When it boils down to it, it's a labor of love more than a labor of income.

We work hard to keep our prices reasonable for the work that goes into each loaf, and we want to offer another avenue for families who are really sitting tight in today's economy. We'll teach you our actual current recipes for sourdoughs that we sell, and answer all your questions to make sure you leave our class ready to bake!

We are HOPING we are finished breeding for the season, and are expecting a late January to late February kidding season. We will be confirming pregnancies over the next few weeks, and will update our breeding chart which has had a few changes.

In the meantime to hold us over, let's review the beautiful babies that have been raised on our farm since the start of our herd last year. 🥰
