These beautiful borage flowers were grown with wonderful worm castings. These flowers were harvested this morning as a tasty snack. Did you know you can eat those flowers? Some of us are getting ready to plant our gardens already and some of us are pretty soon. Before you commit to the plants it is always good to know what the soil health is like. As obnoxious as weeds are to our gardens the weeds can offer you clues of what kind of soil you have or if there are certain issues with the soil. So check out your garden and see if you find any of these guys. It may give you an opportunity to resolve the problem before you put your plants in their beds

It appears like it so I get where it comes from but what’s actually going on is that they are eating decaying matter and potentially plant damaging microbes near the roots. They are cleaning your roots not destroying them. They also are aerating the soil and producing nutrient dense castings for your plants. If you have them in your in ground/above ground garden beds it is no big deal. Leave them there and enjoy the benefit. In a potted plant they work the same but you don’t want them to overpopulate in the confined space as they can cause the soil to go hydrophobic faster. A few is enough

Happy Easter!! Now, what do we do with all the egg shells and cartons? I take my egg shells and bake them, before I pulverize them down in to a grit, that I mix in with a special worm chow for nutrition. With the egg cartons I put them in a big blender where I transform it in to a nice fluffy bedding for the worm bins. This keeps the worms pretty happy, the trash cans pretty empty, and the gardens producing
