I am told reptiles are a good indicator of environmental health. In addition to garter snakes, brown snakes and various frogs I recently came across Mrs painted turtle depositing her eggs in a shallow dirt nest. When I went back to take a look she had covered it up. Had I not known where it was I would never had even noticed the soil be disturbed.

A little about them.

The incubation period is 72 to 80 days. The s*x of the young is determined by the temperature of the nest; cooler temperatures favor males, warmer temperatures favor females. The hatching period is late August to early September. Young turtles from late clutches may overwinter in the nest, emerging in spring.

2024 Virgin Queens placed in mating nucs. They will be mated within 2 weeks for my overwintered spring nucs. Nuc pickup is scheduled for Saturday June 8th. Nucs are still available as will be mated Queens.
