Why is this photo from CPW?

Because the farm we source from participates in Corners for Conservation. has pollinator strips around all of their fields, bringing life to areas that don't do well with row-crop farming. They might see grasshoppers in these sections, but they stay there and don't typically come into the fields. And CPW likes to feature the farms that are doing good things.

There's no better way to enjoy your food than knowing you're supporting family businesses that support all life.

I really love our mixer...outside of the times it decides to work its way across the building floor while operating.

It just makes things so much easier than hand-mixing all of our mixes!

Gluten-free birthdays can really suck.

Thank goodness for a husband who knows how to bake and creates some incredible baking mixes to boot.

I don't like cake, so I'll just stick with brownies or some sweet scones with a bit more icing than normal and a few chocolate chips. Just enough sweet to give some warmth to the celebration.

To all of you who choose, or have to choose gluten-free, I wish you a happy and delicious birthday.

The only limit to the heirloom corn is your imagination...and maybe your talent in the kitchen!

We've made pancakes, tortillas, muffins, cookies, and next we'll try shredded sweet potatoes with egg and corn flour as the base for a garden pizza. We'll let you know how it goes!

We don't have fun here.

Roy is teaching me how to work the mill, so he's brilliant at being silly and making it fun.

This is our Austrian Osttiroler stone mill. This hand-built piece of equipment is just about as beautiful as the grain that moves through it.

The heirloom corn comes out perfectly and is sifted into three different textures, perfect for grits, meal, and flour. We don't sell the cornmeal, as the mill only produces enough to make our cornbread mixes.

This week we're hand-cleaning and milling the heirloom corn.

It currently takes us 8 hours to hand-clean 100 lbs of corn kernels. After we mill it, we end up with 50-60lbs of usable product like grits, meal, and flour.
