Ask a man how he’s doing and he’ll tell you he’s handling it.
He probably is. That’s the part nobody argues with. He’s handling the payroll, the diagnosis, the kid who isn’t talking to him, the quarter that came in soft. He’s handling all of it and he’ll keep handling it, because handling it is the whole identity.
What he can’t tell you is where it goes.
Pressure doesn’t disappear because you refuse to feel it. It gets stored. And stored pressure has to come out somewhere, which is why the argument is almost never about the thing you’re arguing about. It’s about something from Tuesday that never had anywhere to go.
Three settings. Resist, avoid, react. You’ve been running all three since before you turned twelve, and nobody ever mentioned there’s a fourth.
