LaManchas- Why don't they have ears?
Their ears are one of their most recognizable features. So why are they like that?
Short-eared goats likely originated in Spain and the surrounding areas, and colonizers brought these short-eared goats with them when they settled. Despite the name, the modern LaMancha goat breed today was actually developed and bred in the United States in the 1920's and became formally recognized by the ADGA in the 1950's. There are two types of ears recognized for this breed- gopher ears, and elf ears. We have exclusively gopher-type ears on the property. The elf ears, aptly named, are slightly longer and look like miniature versions of Dobby's ears from Harry Potter.
So no, their ears are not docked, cropped, or otherwise altered. They really are just like that!

Welcome to the Glacier Lily Homestead page! Some things about us to get you started-
✝️ We are a Christian family and run our business on biblical principles on stewardship, cleanliness, and community interaction - this homestead is a ministry, not some get-rich-quick scheme! Income is just a bonus, never the end goal.
🐐 We are in the business of all things goats - Raising and breeding quality LaManchas, selling raw goat's milk, soap, and cheese, and finding and sharing products to make your experience with these products more convenient!
🥛Our process and home facility is dedicated to cleanliness and safe handling procedures regarding our raw products. All milking and cheese-making equipment is fully washed and sterilized after EVERY use! Our herd's health testing and milk culture results are also always available upon request
💚Beyond that, we also take great care to limit exposure to plastics and harsh chemicals. The milk itself never touches plastic! We also aim to reduce plastic in all other products where possible.
🧼Our soaps will never contain fragrance or synthetic colorants of any kind- all scented soaps contain only safe, properly diluted essential oils clearly listed in the ingredient list, and colors are from natural sources like pure clays- No dyes, mica powders, or other secrets!
🚫 No AI, ever. A human being will always write recipes, make posts, take pictures, design our logo and website, etc. We believe AI cheapens our integrity and cuts out the community.
🧀 We are a new business, and still refining our craft. If you have any feedback, concerns, or special requests, messages are always welcome. We take custom cheese and soap requests!
