On today’s episode of “What the Hell Are We Doing Now?” 🤣

We hauled home a trailer load of tongue-and-groove from the local sawmill because apparently we’ve decided free time is overrated.

Next up: turning this pile of wood into walls and a ceiling for the new walk-in pantry. Will it go smoothly? Absolutely not. Will there be questionable measurements, multiple trips to the hardware store, and at least one heated discussion involving a tape measure? Almost certainly.

Saturday, May 16, 2026: Johnny and I officially kicked off chicken season and dispatched our first 20 birds of the year. The freezer gained 72 pounds of whole chickens, averaging just over 3.5 pounds each, with a few overachievers tipping the scales at 4.4+ pounds. Not a bad start to Operation Fill-The-Freezer!

Beautiful day to do some work around the property. Johnny still has a hurt back, so I am doing the strimming and taking down the wind break tarp from the side of the goat barn. He is working on getting the chicken tractor ready for the meat birds we will have delivered Monday. Next weekend…we fill the freezer!!

Hopefully soon I will put these power poles to good use. Maybe use a couple of them to build a lean-to off the side of the barn. Any other suggestions for how to use these around the homestead? The power company will bring more if I need them!

With the help of AI, I wrote a song inspired by the Sugar Beet Harvest.

I work as a hiring coordinator alongside RuthAnn and Lisa, and together we help hire 900+ workers each season to head up to the Red River Valley in North Dakota and Minnesota every September.

This job is especially meaningful to me because Johnny and I did the Sugar Beet Harvest while we were traveling full time. It was one of the most rewarding experiences we had on the road, and now it’s incredibly special to be on the hiring side of it.

I truly enjoy helping connect people with this opportunity, and I hope everyone I hire gets to experience and enjoy the season as much as we did when we were out there working it ourselves.

Angel was way past due getting her mani-pedi, and her glands done. But she’s such a good girl and didn’t give the ladies a bit of trouble! She will get extra treats when we get home!

This morning felt like stepping straight into a whispered prayer. 🐓🐐🐾
Fog settled over the homestead like God hit the “soft focus” button on my whole life, and for a minute, everything felt still. The animals were calm, the world was quiet, and my soul finally took a deep breath it didn’t even know it needed.

Sometimes peace doesn’t come crashing in… sometimes it tiptoes across the pasture on a foggy morning and reminds you that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.

It’s the kind of peace that settles your spirit before the day even begins — my happy place, my deep breath, my reminder to slow down.

This coyote tiptoed through my yard at 12:56 a.m., and Gideon? Not a peep. My “guard dog” apparently took a personal day.

Washboard cabinet painted and hung ✅

The final major task is building and hanging the new door, and then we'll dive into decorating! This transformation is going to be amazing! 👏🏼
