Life, like the soil, is accumulative.

There is no one defining moment.

Consistency is rewarded more than the peaks of high intensity.

Sow bad habits, reap unfulfilled desires.

Sow good habits and character, reap a bountiful reward of realized passion and success.

A harvest comes with planning and doing, not by wishing for better weather.

Want to grow your own food?

Start sooner and smaller than you think.

You don't have to have it all together, do all the things, or be out in the boonies to do it.

It's great to have a vision for what you want—but don't delay your enjoyment of life, your happiness or satisfaction, at the expense of what may not happen.

You avoid burnout and costly mistakes starting small.

You also find out what works, what doesn't, and if this is even something you want to do.

Most farms and homesteads look nothing like your saved posts on Pinterest.

Things are dirty, things breaks, and things deteriorate.

So don't compare your humble beginnings to who has been doing this their whole life—or just had a lot of money to burn for aesthetics.

You will find much more contentment and satisfaction with life when you don't compare yours to others.

You don’t repeat a habit unless it rewards you.

Even if you no longer like it.
Even if you know it’s holding you back.

Cheap dopamine retrains your character to choose easy over effort.

This is why it's hard to break bad habits.

But it is possible—you just need a reason why and setting up your environment for success.

Small things compound over time, the good and bad.

So start a new small discipline, like getting up earlier or working out at a specific time and day—

And do it every day. Consistency matters more than intensity.

Dropped off culls at the processor this morning for some fresh meat!

Thinning the herd this way helps keep the best genetics for the future.

Sometimes you have to go backward to go forward!

Everyone wants influence.
Few think about what it actually takes.

If it isn’t built on principle and character, you may fool people with superficial tactics for a season.

But it will not last—and no one will be around when you fall.

Doe dropped 3 kids just a few minutes before we got home yesterday afternoon—two were severely hypothermic.

After an hour of warming them up from about 93 and 95 degrees to 101, they drank from the bottle. No tube feeding! 😅

Still a little weak, but continuing to gain strength.

-

You have to act fast with hypothermia in newborn goat kids and lambs, but recovery is very likely in my experience.

Character is what you do when no one is looking.

Discipline is doing the things that need to be done—regardless when you feel like it.

Stewardship is multiplying what you already have.

Legacy is what continues after your exit.

-

This is the grounding framework of what I envision for the Young Farmpreneur—to steward the land, to influence people, and to serve others well.

Start with the end in mind.

The only way to live life with purpose is to know where you want to be down the road.

It is the only way to be aware of habits that will keep you from getting there.

Once you understand that, you can start making effective change in your life towards whatever you desire.
