A good friend of mine stopped by the distillery last week and asked what will make our product any different from other Bourbon makers. Here are just a few of the things we do:

1) Our water comes directly out of the well with no treatment. Our well is 460 feet deep with 440 of that acting as a natural limestone filter. Almost no iron in our water.
2) Our grain is stone ground which operates at a lower heat and does less damage to the starch in the grain. Our corn is all non GMO.
3) Our still is a solid copper pot with all copper piping which removes the sulfides from the product.
4) Once we cut the heads and tails from each distillation we get rid of them, we do not redistill them trying to save money.

What these steps create is a smoother, better tasting bourbon than someone taking shortcuts!

Missouri law prohibits me from shipping spirits to other states but allows distillers from all other states to ship to Missouri? 🤔

As you can see we changed our name due to a trademark issue. The new name represents the whiskey still which is made of copper needed for quality whiskey and missouri mules which have been raised on this very site by my wife’s family for over 100 years. They even sold them to the US Government during World War I!

Don Gosen, We recieved our TTB Distilled Spirits Permit last month and are awaiting our State License. We have already out grown our plans before one drop of Whiskey has been made and we hope to start construction on our new building in April This building will house our new Distilling Operations. Our aging barrels will be stored in a barn just a short distance away. Things have moved rather slow over the past year but with Permits and Licenses in hand the pace should pick up.

Our plan is to make mostly Missouri Bourbon. Don't get too excited yet for it will take 5 years to make from start to finish! As you may remember from previous posts, the Distillery is located on the old Kallmeyer Farm in Hermann which has been in my wife's family for 110 years. Our plans are to utilize corn and wheat grown on the farm bought by my great-great grandfather Franciscus (Frank) Gosen 148 years ago. This farm is still farmed by our family today.

My wife, Jeanne, and I are very excited to return to our roots in Hermann and continue a farming legacy started by both of our families well over 100 years ago!

We are actually excited to see this cold snap. Hoping it will curb the armadillo population explosion that has been going on the past few years!
