Beautiful weekend to be outside on the farm! Bring the family and enjoy the day!

Frying Pan Farm Park will be open all holiday weekend, July 2-5! As you enjoy our beautiful farm animals, please do not offer them anything to eat -- not even hay or grass.

Human hands carry lots of germs. Even clean hands have residue from soap, sanitizer, sunscreen and other chemicals. Imagine THOUSANDS of people handing our animals things to eat -- and passing along the chemicals or germs on their hands. Imagine those toxins building up inside the animals over time.

Please respect the farm animals and help keep them safe and healthy. Thanks!

Can’t wait for these newcomers to arrive!!

If you've ever given birth, you know that the last month of pregnancy can be the hardest. This is Florence, and she's in her last month of pregnancy now. She's set to deliver some time between now and June 20. She's belly buddies with two of our pigs, who are also pregnant and expected to deliver any day now.

Their offspring will join almost 100 other animals on the farm. That's a lot of hungry mouths to feed! If you can give any amount to help feed all our new moms and their babies and support the farm, please go to Bit.ly/3adfLyx. Thanks!

Move over, "hungry, hungry hippos!" We've got a passel o' piglets to feed! Our Hampshire mama pig named Pattie has had another litter! Our pregnant Yorkshire pigs have due dates coming up in mid-May.

It takes about $30,000 to feed all our farm animals. Please help support the farm with a donation of any amount: bit.ly/3wSwOzJ

Welcome Polly! Our preschool students will love seeing you!

Hey everybody! Please join us in welcoming Polly to Frying Pan Farm Park! Her mom, Hokie, delivered the Angus heifer on Tuesday, March 23, at 2:30 p.m. You can see Polly and Hokie out in the field together when you visit. Please note that it's against Park policy for the public to offer food to any of our animals. Just admire them!

So why is the baby cow named Polly? Well, a few years ago we bought Hokie from Virginia Tech, and we gave Hokie's two older calves Tech-inspired names in honor of her alma mater. For Hokie's newest baby, we continued the theme and named her Polly, short for Polytechnic. Let us know in the comments if you went to VT!

Thank you!!

Thank you!!

If you ride the carousel at Frying Pan Farm Park this spring, say thanks to mechanic Eric Sumner. He noticed that paint on the poles holding the horses was flaking due to COVID cleaning practices. He took on the extra task of sanding all the poles, repainting them, and then reconstructing the carousel to be ready for operation. A step beyond his regular duties put kids on the carousel this spring. https://bit.ly/3cF9RGU

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you Fluffette and her new triplets! The babies were born last week and weigh nine or 10 pounds each.

When can you see them? Well, temperatures are supposed to be near 60 degrees today, so the farm staff plan to allow the lambs to say hi to the public for a little while. Temps will also be high this Saturday and Monday, so those might be options also. Good time to visit Frying Pan Farm Park either way!

The year was 1961. Gas cost 31 cents per gallon, Patsy Cline’s “I Fall to Pieces” was a Billboard hit single, and millions of fans thronged movie theaters to see “West Side Story.” It was also the year Frying Pan Farm Park was born.

In Fairfax County, farms had been slowly losing ground to suburbs. A movement took root in Herndon to preserve farm life for educational and historical purposes.

The Fairfax County School Board had given the Floris schoolhouse to the Fairfax County Park Authority the year before, and in 1961 the Park Authority Board bought 37 acres of the Kidwell Farm property to create Frying Pan Farm Park.

2021 marks Frying Pan Farm Park’s 60th anniversary, and we’re celebrating all year long. Stay tuned for announcements about how you can participate!

The impact of the pandemic has left Frying Pan Farm Park with limited staff, but this has not discouraged Farm Manager Paul Nicholson. He continues to give exemplary care, including returning to the park at all hours of the night to check on sick or pregnant animals, or to ensure that bottle-fed babies get their nightly milk before bed.

This is our Yorkshire sow Hazel and her babies, who were born on April 18! Hard to resist chanting the nursery rhyme "This Little Piggy" when you have exactly five piglets! Maybe we should name them Market, Home, Roast Beef, None and Wee Wee. 😁
