What 12 Years Behind the Bar Taught Me About Slowing Down
On specialty coffee, intentional mornings, and why I built the thing I wished had existed all along.
If you've ever stood at a coffee bar, watched a barista carefully pour hot water in slow, deliberate circles over a small cup, and thought "why does this taste so different from what I make at home?" This post is for you.
That curiosity is exactly why Demitasse Endeavors was born.
Here's something I've noticed over more than a decade in specialty coffee: that question doesn't get answered nearly enough. And it's not your fault. The world of specialty coffee can feel like it has two speeds. On one end, there's a sea of content from people who'll drink just about anything and call it a morning — fun, but not exactly a deep well of knowledge to draw from. On the other end, there's a corner of the coffee world that can feel a little... exclusive. Heavy on the jargon, light on the welcome mat.
What I've always wanted (and what I've tried to become over 12 years of working in this industry) is something in between. Someone who genuinely geeks out on coffee. Who can talk about origin, process, and brewing method with real enthusiasm. But who also remembers that the whole point is the cup in your hand, and the morning it belongs to. No gatekeeping. No snobbery. Just really good coffee, explained like a friend who happens to know a lot about it.

That's the gap Demitasse Endeavors lives in. And it's the reason I built it.
