We had our first two calves of 2026 born on the same day! Each year we name all the calves starting with the same letter of the alphabet. 2026 is brought to you by the letter I! So welcome Innie (out of red angus Annie) and Ink (out of white park Ella). Now to get ready for this snow!

Sorry we have been MIA for a while, between the addition of family members and the usual winter farm work, we haven't had much time for updating social media. Spring is just around the corner!

So God made a farm kid. 🤎

He made a kid whose bare feet are tougher than most boots.
A kid who can bottle-feed a calf before breakfast and still make it to co-op with hay in their hair.
A kid who plays hard — not with batteries and screens — but with mud pies, feed buckets, tree limbs, and a barn full of imagination.

He made a kid whose bath water turns brown before the soap even hits it.
Dirt under their nails.
Sun on their cheeks.
Grass stains that never quite wash out.

He made a kid who understands that baby animals don’t always make it…
that fences break at the worst time…
that work doesn’t wait just because you’re tired.

He made a kid who loves hard, too.
The kind of love that shows up at midnight to check a laboring doe.
The kind of love that cries over a lost lamb.
The kind of love that knows caring for something means responsibility — not convenience.

Farm kids are a little different.
They talk about breeding cycles and hay prices at the dinner table.
They know where food comes from — and what it costs.
They’ve seen life begin… and sometimes end… before most kids learn long division.

And yeah — sometimes other kids think they’re “weird.”
Weird for knowing too much.
Weird for working too hard.
Weird for understanding life a little earlier than they probably should.

But here’s the thing —

God didn’t make them weird.
He made them steady.
He made them capable.
He made them tender where it counts and tough where it’s needed.

He made a farm kid.
And the world is better for it. 🌾🐄🤎

MONDAY SHOUTOUT!

Jillian McDonough ❤️

She is an amazing woman, daughter, mother, fiancé, aunt, sister, friend, co-worker, and farmer! Through all the ups and downs in the life of a farmer, she stays strong and takes control when things need to be done. Not only does she work a full time job but she also makes time for family and friends, and is working on taking over The Smith Family Farm. She has a lot on her plate and farming is never easy but Jill always finds joy in what she does and her animals all love her!

What is great story, memory, or moment do you have with Jill?

Drop a ❤️ and thank a farmer for all the work they do!

An old dairy farmer who had a herd of Holstein 🐄 cows needed a heart valve replacement. He got one from a cow, rumored to be a (*gasp*) Jersey cow 🐂. So, the other farmers would joke that he'd started to convert to loving Jerseys in his heart.

Anyway, that's just some random story my dad told me, so I don't vouch for the accuracy 😂

It is true though that animals can provide some tissue donations for humans, including heart 🫀 valves. Also, a substance from a cow's lungs 🫁 (surfactant) can be used as a life saving treatment for premature babies. These are just a couple of examples of how cows provide more than just milk and beef. There are many useful and even life saving by products that they provide.

For most organs, however a human donor is needed.

❤️‍🩹In America, more than 100,000 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants.

❤️‍🩹17 people die every day waiting for a transplant

❤️‍🩹85% of patients waiting are in need of a kidney

National Donor Day focuses on all types of donors- organ, tissue, eye, blood, platelets, and marrow. This day also recognizes those who have donated, who received a donation, are waiting on a donation, or died while waiting.

I have loved ones who have had their lives changed or would be changed from receiving an organ donation. So, it was important to me that I signed up to be an organ donor when I got my driver's license 🪪.
