Time for the weekly "what's happening with your kitchen?" update. Good things, finally:

- Demo is done ✅
- 3/4 of the subfloor is back in ✅
- Flooring has been ordered ✅
- Cabinets and countertops have been ordered ✅
- Washer & dryer are back in place for now (because it's not just the kitchen...it's the foyer too, where our laundry closet lives) ✅

We're just waiting on a delivery date for the cabinets and fitting in as much of the repairs as we can before they get here. I definitely won't have a working kitchen before Thanksgiving, but here's hoping I will by the time that NEXT BIG HOLIDAY rolls around. 🤞

Hi friends! Here's a rainy Sunday kitchen update where we're going to focus on the silver linings:

#1: We have a sink! No more washing dishes in the bathroom. If you've ever had to use a bathroom sink for dishes, you know this is a VERY exciting upgrade.
#2: Our friends are feeding us the most delicious home-cooked food and we're SO grateful for it! While the kids would be more than happy to Doordash every meal every day, it gets old fast.
#3: The cabinet replacement plan is locked down, even if we're still waiting on insurance to give us enough $$ to cover it all.

And this last one doesn't have a silver lining, but I can't leave it out: the Mi-Box we rented to store the kitchen contents during demo and reconstruction sprung a roof leak. "Weatherproof"...right. 🙄 Hopefully the new Mi-Box they're sending tomorrow won't have the same problem. 🤞

Alright, it's time for the weekly repair update. There are no photos or videos this time because it looks exactly the same as it did last Friday. But there's progress: the next steps are scheduled, I've finalized the kitchen design (as long as it fits the insurance estimate, TBD), we're getting a utility sink installed so we can stop washing dishes in the bathroom, and I've connected with a GC to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to scheduling and hiring for each trade.

On the bright side, choosing a different cabinet maker took 2-4 weeks off the projected installation date! So there's a silver lining...

Well friends, it's been 9 days since the dishwasher flood, and this is what my poor kitchen looks like today. Demo of the floors and cabinets started Friday but halted as soon as they uncovered the linoleum, hidden beneath a layer of hardwood and a layer of plywood. Linoleum from the 50s has a good chance of containing asbestos, so now we wait for testing and pray for a negative result. 🤞 All that to say, a date for reopening is 100% unknown. 😔

It's official: all macs are sold out and all custom orders are closed until my kitchen is back in operational order. Demo starts next week and includes the hardwood floor, tile floor, a section of drywall, and this whole row of cabinets. I'm hoping repairs won't take long once everything is removed! Wish us luck...

Guys... I've got good news & bad news:

Bad news: My dishwasher didn't just break today, it drained ALL its dirty dish water directly onto the floor, and the floor soaked it up like a happy hour margarita (or 20). We're now in the drying phase, which will be followed by the demo phase (hardwood floors at the very least), and then the repair/rebuild phase. All this to say, I'm out a dishwasher and a kitchen that's up to code for licensed baking until further notice. And I'm not happy about it!

Good news: I still have some macs in stock at themacmaker.com, but future orders & custom orders are on pause until all this gets cleared up. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for this to get resolved within a few weeks!
