We had a good day repairing a trough, pipeline, and spring with the Stephensons today. We also got some trails cleared out and ready for summer grazing.

Last night I was in a hurry and was working with my head down. Consequently I missed the rare and unique phenomenon of the northern lights in Utah. Tonight I repented and decided to look up, observe, and appreciate the beautiful artwork that God provides for us with our regular “western lights.”

We recently unexpectedly lost our old mare, Zelda. One of the last pictures we had of her this fall was with her first c**t (the bay I’m riding) and her last c**t. She has produced many great horses for us. She will be greatly missed.

We’re closing the door on the month of October. It was full of gatherings, weaning, backgrounding our cattle. We also brought the mares home and even got a little deer hunting in.

Today marks one month since our founder, Dean Gillette Larsen, passed away. This last month has been an adjustment without him. Although his workload had slowed down over the past few years, we miss his presence and counsel as we gather, wean, and move the cow herd from the top of the mountain to the desert valley pastures. He was involved in all aspects of the fall season: harvesting, canning, and hunting. We mourn his departure from us, but rejoice in his reunion with family and loved ones who have gone on before us. We are grateful for our Father in Heaven’s Plan of Happiness, and our Savior Jesus Christ’s Atonement that enables us to be with him again.

It was a beautiful day on the mountain today! The temperature was just right. There was even a little rain to freshen things up. The mares loved the relaxing morning.

We’re grateful for the help of our Blue Lacy dogs. They have been very helpful in gathering cattle out of the thick low county and moving them to the better grass in the high county. Texas Lacy Game Dog Association
