Nobody becomes a flower farmer on purpose.

It starts with one seed you stick in the ground half wondering if anything will happen. Then it blooms, and something in you shifts, and you are never quite the same.

I have watched it happen to so many women. The garden does not just give you flowers. It gives you back to yourself.

You do not need acres. You do not need to know what you are doing. You just need one seed and the willingness to plant it.

Is this your year to plant that seed?

Flowers definitely feed my soul πŸ’« Let this be a sign to add flowers to your summer πŸ’

The seed has no proof. It goes into the dark not knowing if the light will come, and it grows anyway.

I think about that a lot out in the field. We wait to feel certain before we begin. The seed never waits. It just trusts what it already carries.

Maybe that is the whole secret. You do not get sure and then move. You move, and the sureness comes.

Whatever you have been waiting to start, this is your sign. Plant it before you feel ready.

Before the acres, this was my whole garden.

My very first garden was a small raised bed in my backyard, back in my twenties, when I just wanted to grow something. Over the next ten years I moved several times. Some seasons all I had was a small patio garden outside a condo. I kept growing anyway, in whatever little space I had.

In 2014 I planted my first real garden. Sixteen dahlias.

In 2019 I planted almost three hundred, and started selling them to local florists. That was the year the hobby quietly became a farm.

It has grown slowly ever since, season by season. My dahlias, my buckets, my cooler, all of it bought with money I had already earned.

I am telling you this because you have been sold the idea that you need land and money and the perfect setup to begin. You do not. I started small, with a love of growing, and I let it grow at the pace of a garden.

So wherever you are, a balcony, a patio, one pot on a windowsill, that is enough. Start there. Start small. Let it grow.

You are the seed. Plant it. 🌱

If arranging flowers feels intimidating, I have a little secret for you.

It's a mason jar lid with a grid built right in. Every stem stays exactly where you place it, so your arrangement comes together like a puzzle instead of a wrestling match.

In my newest video, I use it to arrange dahlias and garden flowers into a simple centerpiece anyone can make. No floral foam, no fancy tools.

I was out planting today, and I got to thinking about seasons.

Not every season looks like blooming. Some are for sowing, tucking things into the soil you will not see come up for months. Some are for quiet growing, when there is nothing on the surface yet. And some are the blooming kind, the ones we love to photograph.

They all count. The sowing season is not behind the blooming one. It is just earlier.

So if you are in a slow, quiet, rooting season right now, you are not behind. You are becoming.

What season are you in right now? 🌱

The bouquets you see at the farmers market? They're built in the hand, one stem at a time.

I just posted a new video showing exactly how I do it. The flowers are laid out on my studio table, and in about 10 minutes I walk you through building a hand-tied dahlia bouquet from the first stem to the final wrap.

This is the same style of bouquet you'd sell at a market, tuck into a CSA share, or set out at a farm stand. And you can absolutely make it with flowers from your own backyard.

Watch it here:

Come into the studio with me. The flowers are cut, the table is set...

You do not need five acres or a fortune to feel alive again. You need a packet of seeds, a patch of dirt, and the willingness to begin. The point was never the land. It is your hands in the soil, growing something beautiful.

It is not too late, and it does not take much space. What are you waiting for? Just plant the seed. 🌱

I don’t want a life that looks impressive. I want one that feels good on a Tuesday.

For years I chased the version that looked good from the outside. The kind you can photograph and caption and have people call you lucky.

Then I started growing flowers, and something in me finally exhaled.

Because a Tuesday on the farm is not impressive. It is dirt under my nails, a bucket of dahlias, and a jar of cut flowers on the kitchen counter that no one will ever see but me.

And it feels like the most myself I have ever been.

Maybe that is the whole thing. Not a life that looks like something. A life that feels like home on an ordinary day, with your hands in something beautiful.

If you have been quietly longing for that, let this be your sign. It’s not too late to plant the seed. 🌸
