This is my eighth year making bouquets for our CSA subscription.

Just this week a customer said to me, “Wow, you make it look so easy.”

I wanted to share that here, because it can be so easy to scroll past other people’s bouquets online and feel discouraged. The truth is it took me years to learn how to build a bouquet without overstuffing it with dahlias.

The right companion flowers and fillers give my bouquets a more polished look, and better profit margins too. It’s a skill I had to learn.

I put it all into a free guide. I originally created it for the Dahlia Growers Collective, and figured others might enjoy it as well.

Today’s harvest at the farm! Back in May, we tucked all of these tubers into the ground and have been tending to them ever since. The farm is almost in full bloom as we approach two years at our new location. I almost had to pinch myself today that this is what I get to do every day. 💗

We want to share the beauty with our community so we are going to host a pop-up tomorrow on Saturday, August 29th from 9 AM to 12 PM at the flowering farmhouse. 3050 Dee Highway Hood River Oregon. We will have a limited number of bouquets as well as Dahlia bunches for sale.

We are two weeks out from the Dahlia Design Summit.

Can't show up empty-handed. 💐

I love this time of year where I can quickly harvest a bouquet to take somewhere with me. Tonight was the monthly Gorge Crop Talks, where farmers get together to learn about one another's farms. This month we got to learn about goat, grazing as a way of fire prevention and w**d management.

The world lost a good one today.

I keep coming back to this one of hers. “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”

Anyone who grows anything knows exactly what she meant. There’s no bloom without the hard seasons, no rainbow without the storm that came first. She spent her whole life reminding us to keep looking for the color on the other side of it.

Thank you, Dolly. For the songs, for the heart, for the reminder. 🌈

Perhaps you have heard about the Dahlia Design Summit taking place September 13-18th, but today I wanted to share the why behind the summit.

We have a mission, and that is we are filming a documentary about why local flowers matter and the ripple effect they have. The proceeds of this summit are helping to fund year two of our documentary.

Today we had our CSA pick ups on the farm. It used to take me forever to figure out how to wrap a bouquet so it looked good in a brown kraft paper sleeve. Now I have a system down that allows me to quickly wrap them and have them beautifully on display for my customers. How do you wrap your bouquets? 💐
