Leaves from hybrid American chestnuts after a long hot dry spell and shaded by larger trees that we just cleared. With no babying from me these trees ranging from 50/50% American/Chinese hybrids to I believe over 75% American hybrids, have proven to be very hardy and have withstood our hot dry Texas summers over the past few years.
They should've been larger but up until now we hadn't regularly managed the competition from faster growing trees, so they'd have adequate sun for vigorous growth.
Now that we're finally maintaining the landscape hopefully we can get some vigorous growth over the next few years and see how long it takes these trees to produce.
