Our very own Mary Benton is headed to METRO! 🚇👏🏾

After nearly a decade with the City of Houston, Benton is taking on a new chapter with the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County.

Benton joined the city during Mayor Sylvester Turner’s administration and continued serving in a key communications role under Mayor John Whitmire.

From her years in Houston television news to City Hall and now METRO, Mary Benton has made her mark on Houston’s communications and public service landscape.

Congratulations to our very own Mary Benton on this next chapter! ❤️💙🎊🎉🎊

Congrats to HABJ Member Vannessa Wade for executing a successful 9/11 Day Meal Pack event.

Packing meals for neighbors in need is a powerful reminder of what makes Houston, Houston: our willingness to show up for one another and help those in need.

The Houston Food Bank received 400,000 meals and will distribute them across 18 counties to help our friends and neighbors who are food insecure.

We ❤️ seeing our members do amazing things!

Black-Owned Business Spotlight 📰

This National Black Business Month, we're shining a light on the Houston Association of Black Journalists (HABJ) — one of Houston's largest organizations of journalists of color.

Founded in 1986 and an affiliate chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), HABJ represents media professionals across print, broadcast, digital media, education, and corporate communications. Guided by its mission to amplify Black voices and empower the next generation, the association champions excellence in journalism and fair, balanced coverage of the communities we all call home.

Exciting news for our city: Houston will host the 2027 NABJ Convention & Career Fair, August 4–8, 2027 — welcoming thousands of journalists and media professionals from across the country.

At Unity National Bank of Houston, celebrating organizations like HABJ is at the heart of our mission — supporting the storytellers strengthening our city's voice.
