In Harmony with Tradition: The Evolution of Blackjack Brew Co.
As we delve into the world of craft brewing, it's refreshing to come across a brewery that has quietly built a reputation for producing exceptional beers while staying true to its roots. Manchester's Blackjack Brew Co. is one such example, with a history dating back to 2012. As we explore their journey, let's examine how they've managed to strike the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
The Birth of Blackjack
In the mid-2010s, Manchester was experiencing a brewing renaissance, with new breweries popping up left and right. The History of Czech Lomnické kroužky - Lomnice Rings
Lomnice Rings, also known as Czech Lomnické kroužky, are a traditional treat that originated in the Liberec Region of northern Bohemia. This small town, nestled between the Bohemian Paradise and the Krkonoše Mountains, has given us many culinary treasures, including these delicate yeast cookies.
The name "Lomnice Rings" is a direct translation from Czech, where "lomnické" refers to the region of Lomnice nad Popelkou. These rings have been a staple of Czech baking for generations and are often served as a weekend treat or holiday delicacy.
What makes Lomnice Rings so special is their unique combination of ingredients and cooking techniques. The base of these cookies is a buttery yeast dough, which is rolled out into strips, then twisted into rings and baked to a lightly golden finish. While still warm from the oven, the rings are dipped in syrup and coated in powdered vanilla sugar.

The Brewing Heritage of Jopen: Unravelling the Mystery of the 112 Litre Barrels
As we celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of Jopen Brewery's first beer release, it's time to delve into the rich history that has shaped this Haarlem-based brewery. Founded in 1994 by a group of local beer enthusiasts, Jopen aimed to revive and promote traditional beers from the region. But what about the intriguing story behind their name? Where does "Jopen" come from, and is there truth to the claim that they once used 112-litre barrels?

In the Middle Ages, Haarlem was renowned for its brewing prowess. The city's byelaws provided valuable information on reviving lost beers. To create a genuine historical beer, the University of Leuven developed a recipe based on historical records. In 1994, Jopen Hoppenbier made its debut in the brewers' chapel of St. Bavo church, marking the beginning of one of the Netherlands' most important craft breweries.

The Matcha Phenomenon: A Journey Through Brewing Science, History, and European Heritage
As we delve into the world of The Matcha Phenomenon, it's impossible not to notice the green beverage's sudden surge in popularity across the UK. With British companies experimenting with novel applications and store shelves overflowing with matcha products, it's clear that this Japanese staple has become a cultural phenomenon. But what lies behind matcha's rapid growth? And how do we ensure that its rich history and cultural significance are preserved as it continues to captivate our taste buds?
A Brief History of Matcha
Matcha originated in Japan over 800 years ago, during the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The first recorded matcha cultivation dates back to the 13th century, with tea leaves grown in the Uji region. By the 16th century, matcha had become a staple in Japanese culture, used in traditional tea ceremonies and everyday life.

A Brief History of Beer Culture
Beer has been an integral part of European culture for thousands of years. The earliest evidence of beer production dates back to ancient Mesopotamia around 4000 BCE. As civilizations evolved and trading routes expanded, the art of brewing spread throughout Europe.

In Germany, the Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) was established in 1589, governing the ingredients and brewing processes used to produce traditional German beers. This law has contributed significantly to the development of distinct beer styles, such as lagers and wheat beers.
The Rise of Bar Stances
As the popularity of beer grew, so did the need for a social space where people could gather and enjoy their favorite brews. The concept of bars or inns (German: Gasthäuser) emerged, providing a communal area for people to meet, share stories, and drink beer.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the traditional Czech pub culture flourished, with wooden benches and tables becoming a staple feature.
