We just finished at MD Anderson and Katie asked me to post.
This was not the best appointment in that there is essentially no change from the last three rounds of chemo, and the oncologist literally said he was shocked and taken aback by this. He said that they usually see significant reduction in disease just from the chemotherapy and immunotherapy alone, with some people even seeing a complete disappearance of disease.
This makes the next step far less clear-cut. The plan was to shrink the tumors by chemotherapy so they could do surgery, but in general if the tumors remain this widespread and aren't smaller, surgery doesn't really have that great outcome and can actually even lead to greater spread.
So now they are bringing the case to the tumor board for everyone to weigh in and discuss the best path from here on out, whether it will be surgery anyway, see if doing more chemo helps, changing the chemotherapy drugs used, or ..? In all likelihood if we need to go to different chemotherapy drugs it will be through some kind of drug/treatment trial.
Ultimately the working diagnosis is an aggressive uterine/endometrial cancer which isn't responding as expected to the chemo, leaving no clear answers.
In the meanwhile we have chemo scheduled for tomorrow morning to keep things stable while waiting for the tumor board to come back with their recommendations.
