Grow Wild with MDAR & Weston Nurseries!
FREE Pollinator Kits are BACK!
Friday, June 4 - Monday, June 7 (only while supplies last)

Growing Wild is a movement to help preserve and protect native pollinators in Massachusetts by enhancing our landscapes to benefit pollinators and the environment. To celebrate the second season of the campaign, the Massachusetts DCR and MDAR are distributing pollinator garden starter kits at all Weston Nurseries retail stores to help MA residents learn more about the vital role of pollinators in our ecosystem and how we can all be part of preserving and protecting our environment by planting our own native plant gardens.

We are excited to see what you do with your plants and your kit! Please post your pollinator garden pictures to social media and tag us! Use #westongardens #westonrewilding #GrowingWildMA. One lucky customer who posts on social media will win a $50 gift card.

Download the coupon and bring it with you to get your FREE pollinator kit from any of our three retail stores! There are a limited number of kits available in each store. Kits will be available only while supplies last.

See you soon!

Hudson Community Garden 2022 Opening Day on April 9!

All HCG gardeners - please try to stop by starting at 9AM, for our first work day on Saturday, April 9, 2022.
There will be a brief orientation for new gardeners (and returning gardeners if interested) at ~9:15AM.
The garden needs a spring cleanup, some repairs, etc. All gardeners are expected to help with these tasks during the season. A list of tasks will be available, so if you are unavailable on Saturday, you can help with tasks on your own on another day.
All HCG gardeners have received an email with their bed numbers.
The garden is full (all beds assigned).
Looking forward to meeting new gardeners and seeing returning gardeners back for another great season!

General information

The establishment of the Hudson Community Garden rehabilitated a piece of property that was once used for agricultural purposes, but was left as a fallow dumpsite for decades. It preserves open space, with purpose, by providing recreational opportunities for gardeners and allowing residents to get closer to nature while being active. It protects Hudson’s wetlands by ensuring only organic activities and reinvigorates Hudson’s historic agricultural past by cultivating a property near downtown that was once used for animal grazing. The entire property, which is 280 feet by 90 feet, is under the jurisdiction of the Conservation Commission and abuts a wetland, a homeowner, and the Portuguese Club. The Garden leases the land from the town for a nominal fee on an annual basis. Since its inception, the garden has been fully maintained by gardeners and volunteers. An oversight committee of gardeners manages financial and administrative tasks. The Garden is a short walk from downtown. Visitors can cross the stone bridge to Wood Park or take in the views of the Assabet River.

Hi My name is Mary Mathews. I was at the garden early this morning before going to work. There was another woman at the garden watering her plants. When I walked down to my garden bed I noticed a large amount of water gushing out of the P*P pipes near gardens 82 and 83. I shut off the water in the shed and tried to force the P*P to join but was unable. I had to go to work but someone needs to fix this so we can all water our plants without flooding the area where the P*P pipes are broken.
The weather is looking great for school vacation week, spring BBQ's, picnics, and fun. Thanks to Kylee's Kares Kits for Kids, 97 Hudson elementary and middle school students, plus a few more high school students, and their households will not go hungry! This amazing organization is not the only one fighting hunger. Hudson Health Department , along with OpenTable, Hudson Community Garden and Hudson Community Food Pantry do an amazing job making sure no one goes hungry any day of the year.
Beautiful day for new member orientation! ☀️ 🌱 🐝 🌸
As seen at the garden today ☀️
This is a honey bee. The pollen on her legs is from dandelions. Her tongue is sticking out due to what killed her that was on the dandelions. It’s spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food. Please don’t spray for w**ds until you see the blackberries blooming. In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until middle of June. There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. No bees, no food crops for us and we all starve.
I heard from Black Earth today! It looks like we are close to getting enough people to get this started soon. If you are interested, I encourage you to preregister (no financial commitment). The more people we preregister the sooner we will have this great service. -For those interested in reducing waste, composting, and getting great compost for your own gardens; Black Earth Compost is already in Hudson for commercial composting! Lets work on bringing them here for residential composting. So much is compostable, they have a wonderful list on their site. Sign up to pre-register, no financial obligation! Help reduce our waste-

Agnes Kelly from Hudson painted the garden and received a regional award from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards!! The painting will be displayed at the Hudson Library in June and July. Thanks for providing great material not to mention such a wonderful asset to the community!!!
