Well, when you plan for a quiet night at home and you own livestock, you can always guarantee that the livestock will do something crazy! πŸŽ‰ Well, the crazy award goes to Bo! 🎊 We don't know how he did it, but he basically tore everything in his left stifle, which is the same as a human blowing out their knee. The vet put him on pain meds for a while to manage his pain and put him on stall rest for at least 6 weeks. His mom and brother are not happy with him right now because they have to be on stall rest for at least 2 weeks until he will be old enough to be weaned.

It was a fun Easter evening working with the lambs. Hazel, aka "Big Momma", stepped into some new roles this year as she is no longer going to be shown. Not only is she the herd matriarch and keeping everyone in line, but she is also helping to teach the lambs how to walk on a lead. After a few minutes of the lambs throwing a tantrum and Hazel yelling at them, they started to walk in a row. So, I guess we can say that we may not have our ducks in a row, but we do have our sheep in a row. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Some really exciting things are happening here at the farm. This handsome Tunis ram lamb arrived yesterday. He brings us one step closer to having purebred Tunis lambs. So, everyone, please join us in welcoming β€œIt Takes Two To Tango,” we will call him Tango for short.

Our lambing season didn't end the way we were hoping it would. Our last ewe to lamb was Cinnamon, and sadly she had a stillborn. Cinnamon hasn't been herself since. When someone wonders if animals know or feel love, I will always answer yes. Cinnamon not only has been quite depressed, but she has also been fighting off the trauma that comes with having a stillborn. She is on penicillin to fight off any infection and Banamine to help with the slight fever she has been fighting. She has been showing some improvement since she was returned to her herd. All the other ewes and the lambs continuously check on her throughout the day.

It's been a busy and exhausting 48 hours. These two little ones arrived early Tuesday morning. By Tuesday afternoon, they were not doing very well; they were lethargic, and both were struggling to nurse, even though mom has plenty of milk and was doing all the right things to encourage them to nurse. At this point, we decided to intervene and started syringe feeding them every few hours. They started to perk up a little last night, and by this afternoon, they were acting like normal lambs and getting into trouble, like escaping the lambing pen twice today. They both have been nursing really well and were not interested in the syringe feeding at all tonight, which is a really good sign. The ram lamb started out at 7 pounds, and the ewe lamb started at 6 pounds. They both have gained a half to three-quarters of a pound since then, and both have a strong fighting spirit. So everyone, please join me in welcoming Daisy and Elvis to the farm. Please send them some love; I know they will both appreciate it. Also, I want to say thank you to Grammie and Michelle for feeding them throughout the day today while we were at work.

Clyde had a ruff day for only being 6 days old!!! Over the weekend, his one eye started watering really badly and had the start of an ulcer on his eye. After talking to the vet on Sunday over the phone, we started treating the ulcer with antibiotics and scheduled him to be seen by the vet today. The vet confirmed he had Entropion. Entropion is a congenital ocular disorder (hereditary) where his eyelids roll inward towards his eye due to having too much skin around the eye. This causes the eyelashes to irritate his eye and cause an ulcer. It also causes a considerable amount of pain, and if not corrected, blindness. Treatment is based upon how severe it is. Well, Clyde's was severe, so he had surgery today. The vet cut a small amount of skin on his upper eyelid and a large amount on his lower eyelid, then had both incisions stitched. He has 2 stitches in the upper eyelid and 4 in the lower eyelid. He will get antibiotic ointment on his eye for the next week, and his stitches will come out in 10-14 days. He took a nice nap on a bed of straw after his surgery to sleep off the sedation. He is doing really well tonight, playing with his brother and cousin. Kadie drew up a Punnett Square on Sunday when we went out to eat for Jeffrey's birthday. She wanted to know how much the probability was for it to be passed on to Clyde. This is what a 15-year-old does when animal genetics and becoming a vet are more important than watching her phone.

We welcomed our very first set of twins born on the farm today! Jelly Bean is a maiden this year and is doing a great job with her first lambs, who are twins. Clyde was the first one born and is wearing the plaid blanket, and Bo was the second born, wearing the teal blanket. All three are healthy and doing well. Now Annie will have someone to play with and will hopefully stop jumping on her mom!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!! I got to go to the barn tonight. I like my new pen, it's much bigger and I can hop around. I met my half-sister Jelly Bean and I kinda ignored her hehe 😜 and I met my aunts. Mom wasn't too happy when I got close to them, I told her not to be a helicopter mom. I'm a little sassy like my dad. Oh, and I tried Mom's grain, it was okay, my milk is a lot more yummy. Love Annie!!
