Piglets on sale. We still have a few piglets that need to find their forever homes. I have marked their prices way down so they can meet their families sooner. If you have been wanting a micro piglet that grows to about 40-50 pounds, but they've been out of your budget, now is the time to get one on sale.
Mikey was born in August and weighs about 12 pounds right now. He's older and will need a little extra work, but he's marked down to only $250.
I also have 2 females and 2 males that were born the first of March. They are about 7 pounds right now. Priced at $550.
Micros normally cost in the $800 range, so this is a steal.
All males are neutered.
All piglets are ready to go home today.
You can see their individual pictures on BarefootFarmsMiniPigs.com

Now taking Wait List Deposits.
So many people are interested in the newest litters coming in February, I've decided to start a wait list. If you pay a $25 deposit, once the litter is born, you will have first choice of a piglet.
A $200 deposit to hold the piglet until it is ready to go home will then be required.
When your baby is ready to go home, around 5-6 weeks old, the $225 deposit will be deducted from the final price.
All deposits are NOT refundable. If you do not choose a piglet after being offered from 3 litters, your name will be removed from the list.
If you'd like to be on the list, either sign up at the following link, or text Dawn at (260) 403-1442.

Mini Pigs For Sale | Fort Wayne | Barefoot Farms Mini Pigs

As we approach spring, I start getting a lot of calls about interested in owning a mini/micro pig as a pet. A large part of my job is to be sure the prospective piglet parents truly understand what they are getting into. On my website, www.BarefootFarmsMiniPigs.com I have a ton of information listed under the "pig info" tab. If you are interested in a piglet pet, that's the best place to start learning.
I'm also going to be posting info from the website here, so everyone can learn.
To begin with, here is point 1 from "Is a Pet Pig Right for You?"
---
Let’s face it, mini pigs are adorable and easy to fall for. Those cute little noses and big eyes can quickly melt any heart. Pigs are intelligent and loving animals and we love them! A pig is not the right pet for everyone, however. They are not like dogs or cats, or any other pet you are probably familiar with. They are unique and amazing, but they take special care. Please consider the following before deciding to purchase a pig. These are just highlights. DO YOUR RESEARCH! There is a ton of information on raising a mini pig out there. Read as much as you can on the subject before you make your decision. There are also groups on Facebook for mini pig owners. These groups are a good resource for information from real owners.

1, Even a mini pig is still pretty large. Pigs are very heavy for their body size. Even a small pig will grow to weigh 50 lbs or even over 100 lbs. Our smallest micros are still about 20-30 pounds full grown. They may be short like a medium sized dog, but they weigh a lot. You do not want to purchase a pig based on size alone. We do not guarantee weight or size on any of our pigs. We can show you the parents and get an idea of size, but this is just an idea. Just like how two short people can have a tall child or vice versa, size is never a given. A pig that will stay super tiny to carry in a purse or teacup is a myth. Pigs are wonderful, no matter the size.

There is a lot of negative “mini pig bashing” going around on the internet saying that all pigs grow to 300 pounds and that there is no such thing as a mini pig. This simply isn’t true. Mini pigs are real, and come in a range of sizes. Our smallest adult micro is around 20 pounds, our largest mini adults are around 110 pounds. If you over feed any animal, it will get quite large, but to say that all pigs will be huge is incorrect. Certain breeds are larger than others. Pot Bellies tend to be larger and Julianas tend to be smaller, but there are variations in all breeds due to genetics, diet, etc. Not all pigs advertised online as minis really are true mini pigs. Be sure to see the parents of any pig you want to buy so you can have a general idea of size.

I've been getting a lot of questions about if I have piglets available and when the next litter will be. I don't have any micros right now and the next litter is not due until February.
I do have KuneKune piglets available as farm pets. Kune pigs are super friendly pigs and make wonderful farm or outdoor pets. They grow to about 250 pounds by 2 years old. Many people raise them in the house while they are little and then transition outside as they get larger. These piglets are about 10 pounds right now and would be lots of fun this winter then move outside next summer.
DO NOT purchase a Kune unless you are prepared to care for a pet that is 250 pounds such as a farm or outdoor area.
Males and Females available. Not spayed or neutered. We do not have breeding pairs available. Pictures are of past piglets, but current piglets look very similar.
Piglets are weaned and ready for new homes. Since they are so young, they are not socialized yet, but will easily tame with attention and time. All have interesting markings and some have the wattles on their chin which is a trait of the KuneKune breed.
Let me know if you are interested in a KuneKune piglet.

For those of you waiting on Tula’s babies, I have sad news. All six of them were still born. All were not quite fully developed and looks like they died in utero. This is probably why she was so over due. Tula is fine and healthy, luckily. This was going to be the last time I bred her and is now retired. She has given us many healthy, wonderful babies. She will now just hang out in the pastures and enjoy her old age.
I am sorry to disappoint those of you that were hoping to adopt one of her little ones. This is a huge blow to the farm. Pixie is the next momma due. She has been bred to Puppet. Her litter of micros is due early February.
I do have some Kune piglets available now if you are looking for farm pets.

The newest litter of micro piglets finally arrived. I guess momma, Polly, wanted to have them during the thunderstorm last night.
Four teeny-tiny black babies will be ready for new homes at 6-8 weeks old. Prices on micros are $800 and up due to their tiny size and small litters. I will be taking deposits once the piglets are 2 weeks old.

Prologue
He swung the board at her head. She ducked, the board grazing her shoulder. She ignored the pain. Her mind screamed run.
She didn’t pause to grab clothes, just ran naked into the night.
The moonlight welcomed her. The fresh night air brushed her bare skin as she ran.
He followed her.
He swung again. The board scraped down her back as she fled.
She stumbled but kept running across the yard, into the woods.
He pursued.
Branches tore her bare skin, and weeds tangled her bare feet. Panic drove her, pushed her deeper into woods.
He stalked.
The brush closed in, tangled in her hair, catching her. She screamed, pulled, desperate to escape. The branch holding her hair broke away.
She turned to run, tripped, tumbled.
He pounced.
She scrambled, clawing at the dirt.
He caught her leg, flipped her on her back.
He stood over her, inspecting. “You shouldn’t have run.”
He raised the board again. She had no time to move away, no time to scream.
The board smashed her head in a swift arc.
White hot pain, then thankful oblivion.

Chapter 1

I have lived through my death many times.
A death of my own choosing.
The noose beckons to me, an old friend offering release. Pure and white, it gleams through the swirls of dust and fear in the barn. It waits for me, knowing I will lose to myself. The fence below it draws my bare feet forward in shuffles against rough concrete. I fight my feet, but they keep moving. Now to climb. Each step up pulls me closer to the oblivion I seek. My toes grip the top rail, struggle for balance. I hope to fall, to save myself. The tiny hope dwindles against the dark rising in me.
I reach for the noose, now my lifeline. Too worn to care it is a lie.
Do it. The voice says. Make the pain go away.
I whimper in response, lacking the strength to fight anymore.
I slide the noose over my head in a smooth motion. The texture of the rope brushes against my skin in a soothing, familiar touch.
Just give in. Just give in.
My bare toes grip the wood of the fence, fighting of their own volition. They lose the battle, and I fall, the rope biting into my neck.

I jolt awake in a heavy sweat, instinctively reaching across the bed for my husband, Jackson. His warm body stirs, woken by my moans.
“Just a dream, Zoey,” he says automatically, the way he does most mornings when he is still here when I wake. He pulls me close, my head on his chest. I focus on his heartbeat, the rhythmic sound chases the dream away. I breathe in his scent of sleep, a mixture of man sweat and remnants of his cologne. When I sleep alone, I often hold his dirty t-shirts to me, surround myself with this smell.
I am alive for now.
Jackson rubs my back, soothes me like a child. I cry against his chest. I don’t want to die, I want to stay here with him. The voice has other plans.
Waking to nightmares doesn’t surprise him anymore. Just part of being married to me I guess. He always holds me and calms me down, but he never asks what I see in them. I will never tell him, so better he doesn’t ask.
If he knew the truth, he would stop loving you.
When I am clear minded, the voice sounds brutal, irrational. When I am dark-minded, I believe the lies.
The last few months, I have been getting better, making small steps of recovery from my depression. The closer I climb to better, the harder the voice fights to keep me down.
The noose draws closer, more inviting every time. Sometimes I see it when fully awake. I go out to the barn to do chores and imagine it hanging. It shimmers and calls to the dark part of my mind I desperately need to defeat but don't know how. The existence of the noose no longer terrifies me. The real terror is I am not afraid. The longing for it is my secret shame. The people I love would be hurt by the truth, so I hide it away. I force smiles and laughter to hide the pain.
I am awake now, and I don’t want to think about it. I want to enjoy this moment with my husband. I am safe, for now.
Jackson senses I am calm now. His soothing hands begin to wander lower than my back. I giggle and push myself closer to his warm body.
“Since we are already awake,” he teases. I welcome the distraction. My hands do some wandering of their own.
The alarm goes off, breaking our mood.

A little story from here on the farm.... Last night when I went out to do chores, I found my big Kunekune boar, Tractor, very sick. Since pigs are prey animals, they will hide the fact they are sick as long as they can. Tractor was laying by the pond and had trouble getting up. There was evidence he had been vomiting. I managed to get him up and he followed me very slowly to the barn Luke the precious boy he is. He went right through the gates to a small private pen where I could treat him. He refuses to eat (a very bad sign for a pig). Hoping he was maybe just overheated or dehydrated, I dribbled some Gatorade into his mouth and poured water over him. He just layed down and refused to move.
Tractor is by far a farm favorite. I love all my animals, but some of them wiggle their way into our hearts more than others. Seeing my sweet, huge baby in this awful state shook me deeply.
After loving on him and praying for him to get better. I let him rest. A while later I checked on him. He was barely breathing, there was more foamy vomit, and he was non-responsive. I syringed some meds I use for piglets that are failing into his mouth, and it just dribbled out. When I lifted his eyelid, he didn’t flinch. I did everything I could think of to help him. He didn’t have any injuries and didn’t seem to be in pain. Calling my vet for a late Sunday night emergency visit would not help him. I was sure he was going to die.
Tractor is an old boy. His early years before coming here had not been easy on him. He’d lived a loved and lovely life with us.
I said more prayers and said my goodbyes. Then I left the barn and sobbed. I told my husband and kids that he would most likely pass soon. I even called my daughter in Michigan and told her. It was a night of grief. Livestock farmers understand that we fight a daily battle with life and death. It comes with the job, but it is not easy. Last night was miserable.
This morning, I woke early and braced myself for what I had to do for sweet Tractor. Afraid, I peeked around the barn door.
Tractor was up! By some miracle, he is fine this morning. The feed he ignored last night was gone. The water/Gatorade he couldn’t even swallow when syringed into his mouth was nearly empty. He even jumped on the fence to greet me the way he always does. (See pic).
I am beyond thankful that he recovered! I am beyond amazed at the strength and spirit of this pig.
This morning I feel so blessed to be a farmer. Sometimes we lose the life and death battle for our animals. Sometimes we win!
