On Monday, we hosted our first-ever fundraiser, the Local Food Throwdown in the wonderful joined spaces at Landing Beer Company and Utopian Coffee & Kitchen. Local food enthusiasts, chefs, and producers joined us for an evening of friendly competition and inventive and flavorful food and drinks.
Wow! There are no words to express our gratitude for the support from our local food community for helping make it such a success. Between the sold out ticket sales, the generous donations of fun local food-themed experiences and foods in the silent auction, and pledges to the new Northeast Indiana Farm to School Fund, we exceeded our fundraising goals for this inaugural fundraising event.
Congratulations to the winners of the first Local Food Throwdown:

Savor Fort Wayne is HERE! It’s the perfect time to show our ❤️ for the wonderful restaurants that support our local farms by featuring locally sourced ingredients on their Savor menus.
We're starting with a visit to Landing Beer Company, a welcoming place they call “your newest old favorite”. We agree. Whether you dine inside, enjoy a table outside on The Landing, or get carry-out to enjoy your meal at home as we did, your meal will be hot, flavorful and prepared just the way you like it.
The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was just perfect! Hot, crispy, juicy, all with a mouthwatering kick. This generous sandwich is offered with a choice of extra toppings and we chose to add a creamy fried egg from Wholesome Meadows Farm in Huntington that made it sooo irresistibly good. The Broccoli Salad tasted great as a side.
The Half Pound of BBQ Brisket was nice and tender and had a great flavor on it’s own. The hearty portion was served with your choice of 4 different housemade BBQ sauces and the fresh cornbread was really tasty. The Glorious Gate Nut Brown Ale was just the right choice to quench our thirst.
Since this was our first visit to The Landing Beer Company, we couldn’t resist ordering the Pulled Pork and the Spare Ribs, too. It’s such a treat to be able to enjoy both ribs and pulled pork made with local, pasture-raised pork from Gunthorp Farms in LaGrange County. Both were slow cooked to perfection and served with our choice of sauces. The sides of mac & cheese, cole slaw, and house pickles were all terrific, as yes, we have lots of great leftovers to enjoy.
A slice of Goat Cheese Cheesecake made with Capriole goat cheese from southern Indiana was a smooth and sweet ending to our first memorable meal at The Landing Beer Company. We’ll be back! ,
