Answer: Vitamin D!! As monogastric animals, like humans, pigs make Vitamin D in their skin and in their fat when they're exposed to sunlight all day long, making pasture-raised pork particularly rich in...

Our on farm store is open! We are open every day self serve during daylight hours. Unfortunately our sign by the road has fallen apart, so we've had customers ask if we're still open. When Isaac found out the sign broke, he jumped into action and made this sign to replace it, so everyone would know they can still stop by. He's the sweetest!

04/27/2022

The portable hoop coop for the chickens at the Bluffton farm is finally done! We were able to get it done just before we picked up our 600 new layers yesterday. Since it has been so windy around here lately, we had to keep delaying putting the plastic cover on. The Lord blessed us with a nice calm morning on Monday, so my mom raced over to watch our kids who were all sick, and I was able to help Josh get the plastic put on. It has been a rough week of sickness for our whole family this past week, but Josh has been a trooper working through it (his mom helped us with some babysitting too) and we were able to perservere and get it done!
Last night while we were slipping and sliding on a combination of mud and chicken poo, I asked Josh (a little frustrated) why is it that we chose this as our way to provide for our family. This was his answer "so we can provide fresh, healthy eggs to our customers who count on us". That defintely put things in perspective!

Here is a picture of how we are able to put the plastic on with only two people-there's a ball tied around the plastic at the top and a rope connected to that. Then we just pulled and straightened and repeat until it's all covered.
The other picture is of the hens we put in there last night, and the final picture is all of us celebrating with homemade chocolate ice cream when we got home at 10p :)

We also had our first picnic at the new house, and the children were so excited. One of their favorite things to do is have a picnic, so it made their day ☺️

Josh and I would like to extend our condolences to the Rowan family today. Leigh runs the Ft. Wayne's Farmers Market, and she lost her husband yesterday in a tragic car accident. Kevin always had a smile on his face as he talked to each of the vendors when he would go to the market. We would chitchat about life's ups and downs as he bought tomatoes every week during the summer. Market days aren't going to be the same without him. Please pray for Leigh, their daughter Bridjet, and their son at this time.

On Monday, we hosted our first-ever fundraiser, the Local Food Throwdown in the wonderful joined spaces at Landing Beer Company and Utopian Coffee & Kitchen. Local food enthusiasts, chefs, and producers joined us for an evening of friendly competition and inventive and flavorful food and drinks.

Wow! There are no words to express our gratitude for the support from our local food community for helping make it such a success. Between the sold out ticket sales, the generous donations of fun local food-themed experiences and foods in the silent auction, and pledges to the new Northeast Indiana Farm to School Fund, we exceeded our fundraising goals for this inaugural fundraising event.

Kicking’ off March with some body balm! Wholesome Meadows Farm body balm is made organic olive oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and Shea butter. Giving your skin the extra TLC that it needs. Come smell our four different scents! 🌿
Savor Fort Wayne is HERE! It’s the perfect time to show our ❤️ for the wonderful restaurants that support our local farms by featuring locally sourced ingredients on their Savor menus.

We're starting with a visit to Landing Beer Company, a welcoming place they call “your newest old favorite”. We agree. Whether you dine inside, enjoy a table outside on The Landing, or get carry-out to enjoy your meal at home as we did, your meal will be hot, flavorful and prepared just the way you like it.

The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was just perfect! Hot, crispy, juicy, all with a mouthwatering kick. This generous sandwich is offered with a choice of extra toppings and we chose to add a creamy fried egg from Wholesome Meadows Farm in Huntington that made it sooo irresistibly good. The Broccoli Salad tasted great as a side.

The Half Pound of BBQ Brisket was nice and tender and had a great flavor on it’s own. The hearty portion was served with your choice of 4 different housemade BBQ sauces and the fresh cornbread was really tasty. The Glorious Gate Nut Brown Ale was just the right choice to quench our thirst.

Since this was our first visit to The Landing Beer Company, we couldn’t resist ordering the Pulled Pork and the Spare Ribs, too. It’s such a treat to be able to enjoy both ribs and pulled pork made with local, pasture-raised pork from Gunthorp Farms in LaGrange County. Both were slow cooked to perfection and served with our choice of sauces. The sides of mac & cheese, cole slaw, and house pickles were all terrific, as yes, we have lots of great leftovers to enjoy.

A slice of Goat Cheese Cheesecake made with Capriole goat cheese from southern Indiana was a smooth and sweet ending to our first memorable meal at The Landing Beer Company. We’ll be back! ,
