Our largest school group yet! 🐂📚

Last Tuesday, we had 65 2nd graders and 16 chaperones from Shelburne Community School spend their morning on the farm learning about the dairy industry.

The students loved meeting the calves and cows, and they came prepared with some great questions! We enjoyed sharing how we care for our animals, produce milk, and work every day to provide nutritious dairy products.

A big thank you to Meagan from Poulin Grain for helping with the tour, and to Jill and the New England Dairy team for coordinating this visit to our farm.

A few clips from 1st cut!🌾

Rainy weather pushed our harvest back a bit, but we were finally able to start mowing hay on June 4th.

Hay is harvested several times throughout the summer. With 1st cut wrapped up, we’re letting the fields regrow as we start looking ahead to 2nd cut. 🚜🌱🐂

We kicked off National Dairy Month by celebrating with our first school tour of June! 🐂🥛

On June 2, the 3rd graders from Hinesburg Community School spent part of their morning on the farm learning where their milk comes from. Students explored how cows are milked, the technology farmers use every day, and how we care for our animals and the land.

Of course, no farm tour is complete without a sweet treat! The morning wrapped up with ice cream, generously sponsored by . 🍦

We are planting corn! 🌽

Nutrients have been worked into the soil, and now the seeds are going in the ground. Over the coming weeks, keep an eye on our fields as corn plants begin to sprout and grow! 🚜🌱

Fresh air, green pastures and heifers with the zoomies🌱☀️🐂

It’s officially pasture season and these heifers are being trained on the fence so that they can head up to for the Summer and part of the Fall.

Investing in a sustainable future at Taft’s Milk & Maple Farm 🌱🐂

🏅We’re excited to share that we’ve been awarded funding through two grants to support the implementation of manure injection equipment!

💩What is manure injection?
Instead of spreading manure on top, this technology places nutrients directly into the soil using a toolbar on the back of our tank. As part of this project, we also purchased more flotation tires.

Injecting manure (with flotation tires) allows us to:
✔ Deliver nutrients more efficiently
✔ Reduce nitrogen loss to the air
✔ Minimize runoff - especially in Vermont’s increasingly wet conditions
✔ Improve soil and water quality
✔ Reduce odor
✔ Reduce compaction

⭐️ These investments allow us to keep doing what we love while improving how we care for our land, cows, and community.

Farming doesn’t take a day off, even on holidays 🐰🌷

A big thank you to Forrest and Sam for making sure the youngest members of our herd enjoyed a special Easter dinner tonight 🍼🐂 while also keeping up with quality control over in the sugarhouse 🍁✨

Sweet, busy, and full of maple 🍁
We had the best time hosting our Maple Open House this past weekend and loved seeing so many familiar and new faces on the farm.

Thank you to our families and volunteers for all your help during such a busy and successful weekend. And thank you to everyone who came out to support local maple, it truly made the weekend unforgettable.
