If you visit right now plan to grab a knife and cutting board or we can sit on the porch and talk awhile. We don't have any counter space left. This is a great problem to have and we are quite thankful!!

They say to never judge a book by its cover. That also stands true in the garden. The last couple of years we jumped into growing dry beans. They turned out so well we are now trying many different kinds. They all have unique flavors and when you grow them they are a much better flavor than what you find in the store. The beans below are called Jacob's Cattle Beans and we are anxious to try them.

My evening job this week! I have froze a lot of corn and tried a variety of tools. So far this is my favorite. Freezer corn is always a top 5 carry-in dish in the winter months.

Nobody talks about the lonely side of homesteading
Reformed Acres shared something similar in her stories this week, and I cried WITH her, because I have never felt so seen.
It’s not the hard work that’s lonely, Not the early mornings. Not the endless garden chores or endless animals to be fed, or the dishes.
But the moments when you realize you’re just living differently than the people around you.
When you show up to the picnic with homemade bread, garden salsa, and something you spent hours making… while someone else grabbed something quick from the store.
And I want you to know… I’m not bringing those things because I think I’m better. ❤️
I’m not judging your choices. I’m not looking down on anyone else’s way of feeding their family. I promise that is never my intention, although I’m sure it looks that way.
This life I chose just became important to me.
The same way some people spend their weekends relaxing, traveling, or going out for drinks… we spend ours planting, preserving, building, and learning skills that matter to us.
And sometimes that means we don’t make it to every get-together.
Sometimes it means our priorities look different.
Sometimes it feels like we’re walking a path that not everyone understands.
BUT the truth is… I miss things sometimes.
I miss spontaneous drinks with friends.
I miss not having to plan my whole life around animals, gardens, harvest seasons, and a million things that need done.
Choosing a different lifestyle doesn’t mean we love our friends any less.
It just means we’re pouring our energy into something that feels meaningful for our family, and not everyone will understand and that’s okay ❤️
I think a lot of people who choose a slower, more intentional life quietly carry this same feeling.
Finding your people who understand it is a pretty special thing. ❤️
