Rain in the forecast just means more of a reason to visit the playbarn.

Inside, little farmers can dig and scoop in the corn crib, climb their walls, cruise around on tractors, zip down the slides, and turn a gray day into a Farmyard adventure.

The orchard is taking a breath this week while the next apple varieties finish sweetening on the trees. There will be no you-pick apples this week, but luckily, fall has a way of filling in the gaps.

The pumpkin patch is having its moment, officially calling for boots, wagons, and a little porch-planning. Raspberries may be nearing their final bow for the season, but they’re still giving us sweet reasons to wander the rows. Sunflowers are bright and ready for pickin’, with a second patch just beginning to bloom for the next round. The cut-flower garden still has plenty of color to gather, even as these cooler days begin to slow it down.

If you don’t mind a little dancing in the rain, grab those jackets and boots and make a day of it. If you’d rather stay dry but still want fresh apples, the Farm Market is stocked with plenty of pre-picked options, too.

Wilson’s Bakery started with Joyce Wilson’s apple pies and turnovers back in 1980, made with apples from the farm and a whole lot of care. 🥧

In this clip, our former chef Matt Steigerwald shares how that tradition has carried forward through scratch baking, local ingredients, skilled hands, and a deep belief in feeding our community well.

Tomatoes, apples, herbs, melty cheese, something crispy, something cozy. This week’s Tasting Room menu is sitting right in that sweet spot between late summer and early fall.

We’ll have the full menu in the comments, as always. Come hungry, bring someone who likes to share, and settle in with us over good cider, great food, and an easy evening on the farm.

Two grooms, one extraordinary love, and a celebration filled with laughter, happy tears, dancing, and the sweetest sense of belonging.

An oldie but a goodie from Paul himself on pumpkin growing at the farm.

Most years, pumpkins take center stage right as apple season begins to slow down, but this year they’re arriving just when our lighter apple crop needs another harvest to help carry the season. That makes the earliest pumpkin harvest we’ve ever had feel especially remarkable, and especially helpful.

Pumpkins grow well in Iowa, but they still keep our farmers busy with disease, insects, weeds, and, in our location, flooding.

That’s why a diverse farm matters. When one crop has a difficult year, another can help welcome guests, keep the fields full of life, and tell a bigger story about Iowa agriculture.

A gentle reminder that today kicks off Fête des Fleurs on the farm! 🌻

Our Farm Market is already home to freshly picked flowers most days, but this weekend they get a little extra room to shine. You’ll find buckets of cut-flowers and sunflower blooms, a build-your-own flower bar, a flower photo-op, and pre-made bouquets tucked into bud vases and larger jars, ready to carry a bit of the season home with you.

Let this be your excuse to set the phone down, take in the fresh farm air, and trade the rush of the week for the grounding ritual of gathering flowers by hand.

A handful of tickets are still available for today’s Flower Arranging Workshop from 2pm to 4pm. You can reserve your spot through the link in our bio or on our website at wilsonsorchard.com/shop. ✂️💐

Thursdays at the farm, one year in. We started Tasting Rooms last September for the cider, new and seasonal releases alongside older Wilson's favorites, and small plates followed close behind.

Almost everything on both sides of that comes from close to home. The apples are ours, and much of what Chef Chris Henning cooks comes from and other small Iowa growers.
