At Backyard Barnyard, our animals always come first. Their health and care are our top priority.

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at our hoof trimmer, Jesse, giving one of our miniature donkeys, Sully, a hoof trim. Jesse visits about 5 times a year to trim the hooves of our donkeys and miniature zebu, as well as the toenails of our alpacas. While CJ and I take care of smaller animal friends feet, we leave the big jobs to Jesse!

Jesse is also a hardworking small business owner, and we're so grateful for the excellent care he provides. He does a fantastic job every visit, and our animals are always in great hands.

When he's not here working, you might even spot Jesse visiting Backyard Barnyard with his family and enjoying time with the animals.

Although I think Olivia is ready for the weekend after she helped me get a 14 horse stop back in shape for summer riding. 😂

I have developed a greater appreciation for trimming half a foot to demonstrate the difference one trim can make and what to look for. The side by side comparison is far more effective in highlighting the change than a pile of hoof clippings on the ground that may not always look significant.

Things will look a little different in 2026! Due to the large increase of shoeing (also the amount of pads) I started doing this summer/fall. I regrettably decided to upgrade to a trailer. This will help me provide a better service and stock for my clients.

No better way to test out the new shoeing trailer than to drive to Utica in a snow storm 😂 although driving in a whiteout with 2’ snow drifts in the road was a bit sketchy it was nice to work inside away from the wind! ❄️ 🥶
