🍂As temperatures begin to cool, South Carolina livestock producers are transitioning from warm-season pastures to fall and winter forage. A little planning now can help extend the grazing season and reduce reliance on hay.

*Equine owners--some cool season annuals, such as clover, can cause issues in horses. Please contact your local L&F agent to discuss species to plant for equine grazing! 🍂

🐄 Not all cattle are built the same—and that’s by design!

Just like people, cattle naturally come in different body shapes, frame sizes, and muscle patterns. Some breeds are naturally leaner, while others are known for heavier muscling or easier fat deposition. That doesn’t mean one is “better” than another—it simply reflects the job they were bred to do.

Understanding normal breed characteristics helps producers make better decisions when evaluating body condition, nutrition, performance, and overall herd management.

Remember: Body condition should always be evaluated within the context of the animal’s breed, age, and stage of production.

It’s also important to remember that environmental conditions can affect a cow’s appearance. Drought, poor forage quality, extreme weather, parasites, illness, and increased nutritional demands can all cause cattle to lose body condition and appear thinner than normal. That’s why it’s important to evaluate cattle based on both their natural breed characteristics and the conditions they’re living in.

Every breed has a purpose, and every body type tells a story. 🐂🌾

Some see a pond or a simple watering hole—a place where the herd gathers to quench their thirst and escape this southern summer heat. They look at the water and wonder how something so ordinary can meet such a deep, desperate need.

But when we look through the eyes of faith, we see the hand of God.

Just as He provides a physical refuge for His creation in nature, He is the true source who restores our souls. Even in our most uncertain, questionable moments—when the dry seasons of life leave us weary—He invites us to come to Him. He doesn't just offer temporary relief; He completely quenches our deepest thirst for life, purpose, and peace.

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
— John 4:13-14

Happy Friday, y’all!! Take a moment today to step away from the heat of life, rest in His presence, and let Him replenish your soul for the weekend ahead.

Meet today’s supervisors. 🐴 They didn’t lift a post, stretch a wire, or drive a single screw, but they’ve inspected every bit of this fence from a safe distance. We appreciate the moral support, y’all. 😂

Built the Rauton way. Approved by the horses.
