This is a gillnet, and it's what we use to catch every fish at Slipstream Sockeye. Corks keep the net afloat, weights stretch it down into the water, and fish swim into the net getting caught at the gills. We then pick every fish out by hand, bleeding them and flash freezing them. Gillnets have been used for thousands of years, and we still have glass balls wash up on our shores from when they used to use blown glass corks on Japanese gillnet boats!

After the season when our nets have seen better days we recycle them and they are turned into plastic pellets to be used in all kinds of manufacturing. The coolest use though, is that right now a whole container of recycled lets is headed to Ukraine with to be used as anti-drone defense. photo
