It' strawberry picking season in South Carolina, and I am ready! For the last couple of years, I have been making strawberry pepper jam to make a little side money for Shady Edge Farms. While I have tried several different recipes, and have had returning customers, this by far is my favorite strawberry pepper jam recipe. I once read that a goal without a timeline is just a dream. Or something like that. I am not sure who said it. Or if that was the exact words. But I feel like I have a lot of dreams. This year, I hope to do better. I have made a list of goals and my list includes 9 ways I will be making money on my homestead....

My grandson, Avery, has taken over the feeding of livestock and gathering of eggs here at Shady Edge Farms. For a while now, we have not been getting very many eggs. Honestly, I can't remember how long it has been. That has changed! The other day, Avery came running in the house with a handful of eggs. I wish you could have seen the excitement on his face!...

We have supplemented our chicken feed with bread and corn. After a long, eggless period, our girls are back in business!

I suppose when I was dreaming of becoming a homesteader, the thought of raising our own meat was at the forefront of my mind. I know I can raise a garden. I have had fairly good luck with raising chickens. I know how to cook from scratch. I can sew, a little. And I thought I wanted pigs. What in the world was I thinking?...
