OK, my fellow chicken tenders. I’m stumped on this one. This tiny 13 gram egg came from my nesting box where I only have Cuckoo Marans and Silver Laced Wyandottes. They are all full-size hens. There are no pullets in this coop. I washed it and it stayed green. I cracked it open and it has a yolk as you can see so it’s not a fairy egg. What in the world?!

This was a first for me—I gave baby chicks to a broody hen! 🥹🐥

Everything I read and everyone I talked to recommended doing it at night, so that’s exactly what I did. I gently removed the fake egg from under her and tucked three tiny chicks beneath her instead.

She immediately wiggled around, settled herself comfortably over them, and accepted them as if they’d always been hers.

The next morning, I found her outside the nesting box, proudly showing her new babies around while they happily explored together. Watching her instincts kick in was such a sweet moment. ❤️🐔
