Sun Thistle Farm

Sun Thistle Farm Like the thistle—we're resilient and tenacious, a little sharp but pretty; and whole-hearted.

Our main ethic is a commitment of partnership between the land & soil, the animals we partner with, and the plants we grow, forage, and craft with deepest care. At Sun Thistle Farm, we are cultivating a multiproduct, community-rooted farmstead that blends approachable modern agriculture with the ecological wisdom of ancestral land stewardship. Like the thistle—resilient, spiny, yet bursting with beauty—we honor the challenges of the land as part of its gift. Our vision is to restore a thriving savanna ecosystem, guided by fire, grazing, and perennial polycultures as tools for regeneration, not extraction. Inspired by Indigenous agroecology and permaculture principles, we see this land not as untouched wilderness, but as a once-tended and now-reawakening agricultural landscape. Under the sun’s guidance, we grow food, medicine, and relationships that are reciprocal, rooted, and radiant with possibility.

Enjoy this (quick) Pic of my Neighbor Friend's farm Ben Yohai & Kristina Porter
So grateful each year to see Ben's seed crop gracing the "table" of the Little Applegate straight stretch 🥰 Thanks Ben and Kristina!

Holiday gift plans? I'm getting ready for the season (already!) with fresh batches of PURPOSEFUL gifts that support health and self care-- and keep our happy little farm afloat!

It's a lot of work to vertically integrate our goods and but honestly, it's one more product I no longer worry about sourcing from the BigBoxStream.

2x day 365 rain, shine, sickness, health, richer, poorer... we show up.. 🙌
And USUALLY we enjoy doing it once we're out there. Grateful to our herdshare members- mostly tho, grateful for these 4-legged kin who make it all worthwhile.

Last Applegate Evening Market of the season. So grateful to A Greater Applegate and the The Lindsay Lodge & Restaurant for putting together such a great opportunity to enjoy community with riverside music, farmers, makers, and the people of the Applegate ❤️

Mad KUDOS to Jaimy as the BEST vendor coordinator ever. You really bring the vibe up behind the scenes as well as what everyone sees in the surface and I'm sure everyone can FEEL it! Hugs!!!

Let's do it all over again next year!

Stirring in the "seed" honey 🍯 for our infused, creamed honey.

Ours is NOT made by whipping in air; we finely grind crystallized honey (creating seed honey) and add it to our raw, still liquid honey to serve as a crystallization template. Under the right conditions, the rest of the honey will crystallize to the same size (ultra fine, "creamy" texture that holds over time).

I'm not entirely sure people care or keep their honey around long enough for it to matter... what do you think?

Its not spaghetti, and it didn't come from the store! This is grass fed and finished dexter tallow from my neighbor-friend Martha at Straub ranch AND suet from my new and dear market friend Marze of Moon Farm out of Butte Falls.

I've visited both ranches and they're so different: Marze has lush green grass and Marthas place is wilder, drier and closer to Sun Thistle. BOTH ranches, however, boast cows happily being cows with freedom to range about under blue skies and shade trees.

Loving having my tallow stores topped off in time to replenish fresh goods for holiday gifting! 🎁

So grateful for my farm friends and community!
