Well, the girls made it through the cold snap which means we had a chance in the “warm” weather to get out there to clear the entrances and feed them some homemade sugar cakes (dissolved sugar, lemongrass, honey, and pollen).

Flower 4 on our Apiary Flower’s series is the GoldenRod. This flower is typically the last nectar flow that many Midwestern bees will get before the Fall comes. Though it plays a pivotal role in the health of a colony, when turned into honey, it carries a strong odor (smelling similar to dirty shoes). So we are letting the bees keep it for their winter reserve :)

The Bachelor’s Button is an exotic species originally from Europe that has become common in the U.S. and many other countries. People love it because of its deep blue color, and our bees couldn’t agree more!
