February & March Updates - So much to share! February and March have been real eventful here on the ranch, checking off some big ticket items from our 2025 goal list. 1st - Our sweet baby Hank is growing so big. He’s a healthy and happy guy who, once he is weaned end of May, found his new home with another farm family. He’s been so fun to raise and watch grow. And his mom, Gertrude, has been the most wonderful mama! 2nd - We have talked for years about whether to remove all of our old avocado trees. While they were beautiful and a reason we bought this property (not knowing much about avocado trees), we found out the hard way they just cost us so much money in water and didn’t produce much fruit, so they had to go. We tried hard to make it work, and truth is we should have removed them years ago. So the 70 trees were removed and replaced with 3 Italian varieties of olive trees. This grove is even more beautiful, low maintenance, very cost efficient in water and will give us lots of delicious, healthy, organic olive oil. We are excited to learn about harvesting olive oil! 3rd - We sold our flock of Serama chickens. We have always maintained that everything here must serve a sustainable purpose. And while these cuties did give us lots of tiny eggs, we just didn’t need an extra flock of cute chickens. Also we wanted to rearrange the chicken coop area to be less cluttered. 4th - We brought a buddy home for our donkey, Pablo. His new friend is Pedro and is so funny. The two of them make a corky team, Pablo being so mellow and thoughtful, while Pedro is super silly. We added another goal to our 2025 list, which we will share later. But this year is turning out to be one filled with improvements, adjustments and lots of action. In the coming months, we see more enjoyment from the things we are accomplishing now. ☀️
