Species spotlight!!!

This month’s species spotlight is… the wood frog!🐸🪵

The wood frog is a native amphibian to the northeast and is dependent on vernal pools, where it breeds and lays large egg masses in early spring. The wood frog makes a “quacking” mating call and is identifiable by the black “robber’s mask” behind its eye. As the name implies, wood frogs live on the forest floor and hibernate in the winter underneath leaf litter. 🍂🍁 The wood frog has great freeze tolerance and is able to produce a natural “antifreeze” to survive freezing temperatures. 🥶❄️
