🐝Part 4 + Aloha Friday Bee Trivia 🐝

Question: What’s it called when an entire colony of bees leaves their hive?

Answer: It’s called “absconding”! Bees may abscond because of too much disturbance, queen issues, or other stressors.

On Saturday, you could see all the bees flying around — wait till the end to see what happened to our hive! 😅

You can tell a hive has absconded when it’s quiet, with no honey or brood left behind.

We’re happy knowing that at least the bees have now settled into a safer environment, where they can keep buzzing happily.

Bee Rescue: Part 3 🐝

After carefully opening the wall, it was time for the extraction!
We used a special bee vacuum to gently collect the colony without harming them. It takes time and a gentle touch, but seeing them safe makes it all worth it. ✨️

Bee Rescue: Part 2

Sometimes bee rescues involve a little sawing and a lot of patience… 🐝🪚

We carefully cut the hole to see the bees and access the hive safely.

Next up: Part 3 — the big extraction! ✨

Part 1: Scoping Out the Hive 🐝

Over the weekend, we had another buzzing adventure!

A colony of bees had made themselves at home in a tricky spot, so we spent some time observing and figuring out the best way to safely help them.

Stay tuned — Part 2 is where we start the rescue! 🪚🏠

🌺🐝 Aloha Friday Bee Trivia! 🐝🌺

Why does one bee sting sometimes seem to attract more? 🤔

When a bee stings, it releases an alarm pheromone and believe it or not, it smells like bananas! 🍌 This scent is a signal to the rest of the hive: “Danger! Protect the home!”

That’s why you might see more bees buzzing around after one sting — they’re just tiny protectors doing their job.

🐝✨ Where did the bees go? ✨🐝 (Part 2)

When bees are relocated, you’ll often see them buzzing all around. It might look a little chaotic, but this is completely normal! They’re simply searching for their queen and settling into their new hive box.

Relocating colonies keeps both people and pollinators safe. Now, these bees have a secure home where they can thrive and keep pollinating.

That’s why rescues matter: every safe move protects our environment and the food we eat 💛.

We’re so happy these little pollinators have a fresh start! 🐝✨

When a hive loses its queen, the colony faces collapse. No eggs mean no workers, no future, no survival.

But bees don’t wait for disaster. They act.

From thousands of ordinary larvae, a few are chosen. They weren’t born special, but their destiny changes with a single substance — royal jelly.

This nutrient-rich secretion, fed by nurse bees, flips a biological switch. The larva grows larger, lives longer, and becomes fertile. From the same beginnings as every worker, a queen is made.

It isn’t superior genes that decide who reigns. It’s environment, nourishment, and care. One change in diet transforms the future of the hive.

The process saves more than one bee. It rescues the entire colony. A new queen restores order, fertility, and survival.

The queen isn’t born. She is built.
And through her, the hive lives on.

What a bee-sy week last week! A neighbor reached out for a bee rescue, so we came to help. Bees sometimes settle where it isn’t safe — for them or for people — and that’s when we step in. 💛

We carefully relocate colonies into safer environments where they can thrive and continue their important work as pollinators for our community.

Here’s a sneak peek of this hive… stay tuned to see where this buzzing family was placed next!

🐝 Aloha Friday Bee Trivia! 🐝

Did you know bees don’t just have two eyes -- they have five?

Two big compound eyes give them a panoramic view of the world.
Three tiny “ocelli” on top help them sense light and steer like little pilots.

➡️ Can you spot all five eyes in the photo? Drop a 🐝 in the comments if you found them!
