I swear sometimes my intuition knows what I’m doing before I do. 🥹🤍
Tonight I ordered this absolutely beautiful midwifery & obstetrics fabric. It’s covered in babies in the womb, flowers, birth imagery, and tools used by the people who help bring babies earthside.
I didn’t really have a plan for it. I just saw it and immediately felt like I HAD to make something with it.
Then I realized the timing. 🥹
This week is National Midwifery Week, and October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month.
As a mom of two, pregnancy, birth, babies, and motherhood hold such a special place in my heart. Carrying and bringing my babies into this world were some of the most vulnerable, emotional, beautiful, and life-changing experiences of my life. Motherhood completely changed the direction of my life and, ultimately, played a huge part in why Miele Homestead exists in the first place. 🤍
It has also made me realize just how precious the journey of bringing a baby home really is—and that not every family gets the ending they dreamed of.
Once I realized what this week and this month represent, I knew I wanted this fabric to become something more than just another cute collection.
So I’m going to be creating a small Birth Worker Collection from it. 🪡🌿
I’m thinking pieces for midwives, doulas, L&D nurses, OB staff, mamas, and anyone else who has a special connection to pregnancy and birth—quilted bags, zipper pouches, supply bags, keepsake pieces, and whatever else this fabric inspires.
But this is the part I’m most excited about:
🤍 A portion of the proceeds from this collection will be donated to Sufficient Grace Ministries: Perinatal Hospice & Bereavement Support, an Ohio-based nonprofit that supports families walking through miscarriage, stillbirth, infant loss, and life-limiting prenatal diagnoses. Their mission is so very important.
After the support you guys showed during our fundraiser for the Hardin County Dog Warden, I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want Miele Homestead to stand for as it grows.
So maybe this is the beginning of something new:
The Good We Grow🤍
I would love to continue choosing different causes and organizations throughout the year and finding ways for this little business and the community growing around it to do some good together. It may be a fundraiser, a special collection, donated items, or something completely different depending on the cause.
For October, this one just feels right.
To the families carrying babies in their arms and the families carrying babies only in their hearts—your babies mattered. They are loved. They are remembered. 🤍
And to the midwives, doulas, nurses, doctors, and other birth workers who walk beside families through some of the most beautiful—and sometimes most heartbreaking—moments of their lives: thank you.
