🐐 Meet the Herd: Sage

Sage is Ella’s younger sister (same parents, different kidding), and she’s one of those goats who is equal parts sweet and sassy. She definitely has opinions—and isn’t afraid to share them. 😆

She’s also given us some especially pretty kids over the years, so we’re always excited to see what she adds to the next generation of the herd.

She may not always be the first one asking for attention, but when Sage decides she wants some love, she can be incredibly sweet. And with a face like this, she gets away with quite a bit around here. 🤎

Flower Patch Update

August in Oklahoma is putting the flower patch to the test. ☀️

We’ve been in triple-digit temperatures for weeks with virtually no rain, and there isn’t much relief in the forecast. We’re watering as much as we reasonably can, but the heat is definitely beginning to show.

The outer edges of the flower patch are looking pretty tired, with browning lower leaves and stems as the plants struggle through the heat. The good news is that the middle of the patch is still surprisingly pretty and full of color, with plenty of zinnias and celosia continuing to bloom. 🌸

For photographers with upcoming sessions: there are absolutely still beautiful areas to photograph, especially when shooting into and across the center of the patch. We just want to keep everyone updated so you know what to expect when you arrive.

As always, we’ll keep watering, deadheading and doing what we can to survive an Oklahoma August.

And good news for photographers looking ahead to early fall—our pastures are still tall and unmowed, providing plenty of soft, golden grass for your sessions. 🌾

🐐 Meet the Herd: Morning Wood

Yes, that really is his registered name. 😂 And while we can’t change what’s on his pedigree, we’re still deciding what we’re actually going to call him around the farm.

He came to us as Woody, and the nickname may stick…but we’re not completely sold yet. More on that in a minute. 😉

Morning Wood is the newest addition to our Nigerian Dwarf herd, and so far, we couldn’t be happier with him. He settled in almost immediately and has proven to be an exceptionally sweet, easygoing guy. That’s something we especially appreciate in a buck—many of the boys we’ve owned over the years have tended to be a little more skittish or temperamental.

His personality actually reminds us a lot of Bang, one of our longtime bucks, which is about as good a compliment as we can give him.

Of course, we didn’t bring him home just because he’s nice. His pedigree is promising, and he brings some much-needed genetic diversity to our herd. We’re excited to see what he contributes when breeding season begins this fall—and eventually, what his daughters may bring to the future of our dairy herd. 🐐🌿

But first, we have important business to settle…

🐐 Meet the Herd: Ella

If you’ve already met Nocturne, then you’ve met Ella’s mama.

Ella was Nocturne’s very first daughter, and over the years she’s grown into one of the sweetest, easiest-going girls in the herd. She’s the kind of doe that’s happy to stand quietly for head rubs and never seems to be in a hurry.

Don’t let her gentle personality fool you, though—Ella has quite the reputation in the kidding barn! She’s known for giving us triplets and has even surprised us with quads.

With her sleek black coat and little splash of white on her poll, she’s been easy to recognize since the day she was born. (Swipe to the last photo to see baby Ella. 🤍)

One of our favorite memories is having Ella and Nocturne together on stage at our church during a visual illustration of the Day of Atonement. It was a special moment we will always remember.

Girls like Ella have been an important part of our farm for years. Her milk has helped tell the story of Ogie Farms and, more recently, has been carefully frozen in preparation for our upcoming line of Fettle products.

Every herd needs a steady, gentle soul, and Ella has been ours for years. 🤍🌿

🐐 Meet the Herd: Nocturne

Nickname: Knocky 🤍

Favorite thing: Head rubs

Known for: Leading the girls and always being the first to investigate anything new.

Fun fact: Nocturne was one of the foundation does that helped build our herd and has remained our quiet leader ever since.

The milk from girls like Nocturne has been the foundation of our goat milk soap for years. More recently, we’ve been carefully freezing her milk in preparation for something new—our upcoming line of Fettle products.

Honey has been keeping us on our toes lately, but she’s feeling a little more like herself. Life on a farm isn’t always picture-perfect, but we take the health of these girls seriously, and they’re worth every bit of extra care. 🤍
