My friends Ryan and Chelsea built and operate the Tasty Sugarhouse in Higganum, it has some really unique and innovative features for making maple syrup. Check out the interior, being done up with some thin cut pine sheathing boards and batten strips that I milled up. They sell maple syrup too(I believe they made over 60 gallons this year!) if you’re interested!

Great things take time. A customer shared his incredible work with one of these black walnut slabs. These were milled with my Alaskan chainsaw mill back in June of 2020. The logs were sent here by a friend who planted and removed the tree on his property. Thank you Anthony for sharing your work!

Recent repair on this gasification outdoor wood furnace that was leaking water on an under fire air passage. The repair included cutting the factory welded in baffles out to repair the leak- this area was found plugged with creosote so I designed and installed these removable 316 stainless baffles so the customer can keep the air ducts clean for better efficiency, in addition to repairing the water leak and building up a scoured area on the water jacket. All this was done in place at the customer site.

Today I got a chance to reconnect with some customers and check out this cabin that I milled a bunch of lumber for in summer of 2023. I milled the pine siding and interior sheathing, exposed pine rafters, red oak flooring and trim. A lot of it was built with lumber pretty fresh off the mill with fantastic results. I am very thankful to have been part of such a cool project that my customers continue to enjoy. Here’s some photos of the finished cabin!

Good morning and welcome to another episode of BIg Wood. In this episode I am testing the advertised 36” log capacity of my Wood-Mizer LT-40 with this 35” red oak log. This was a hazard tree removed from a parking lot for an apparent complex in Middletown CT by York Tree Service and brought here to be repurposed. It yeilded three custom 18”x18”x30” vise/anvil stands, some nice clear boards and many 7 and 8 foot stakes.
