Well in typical Painted Sky Ranch fashion it might be the week before my wedding but we still had chores to do. On Wednesday the weather looked daunting but it held out long enough for us to get shearing done. Thank you so much to Elizabeth Cline and Ron for helping out. Thank you so much to Adam with TopKnot Shearing and his guys. As always, it was a pleasure working with them. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a quality shearer. Lola and Hannah even had a blast having company in their dog run. We also had a visit from our friendly neighborhood bald eagle yesterday morning and this afternoon. We are so blessed and so thankful.

Well life is a little crazy right now. The farm is getting ready to welcome my soon to be wife Heather Bailey and my new kids Dylan, Carter, and Faith, as well as two more pups. Five of us and four dogs in 2300 square feet, let the adventure begin.

In between getting the house ready and work I still found time this weekend to trim everyone's toes, shear Willow, and get some halter training done with the cria.

The conversation between the two halves of my brain right now: Left side of my brain: Hey, remember that time a day before your last craft fair when you got this wild, crazy idea to throw a ridiculously low bid out on an online auction for a mower with out really thinking much about it? Remember how you said to yourself this will be fun to bid because there's no way you're going to get it for this ridiculously low amount. And you remember how you got a call in the middle of the craft fair that said, you actually ended up getting it? And remember how when you got there and got it on the trailer, it looked huge compared to how it did in the pictures? And remember how you decided it might have to be modified because it's actually too big for your tractor? Can you explain to me exactly what you were thinking because I don't think I will forget this time. Right side of my brain: 🤷‍♂️ I don't really see your point. You still had fun and it was an adventure. If we sell, it will double our money and if we keep it, we got it for ridiculously cheap. So what's the problem here?🤷‍♂️. Left side of my brain: 🤦‍♂️ Never mind.

Well it has been a hot minute since I have been able to get to a craft fair, but I am excited to try it today. I am one of about 150 vendors at the Smokey Hill High School Spring Craft Fair from 9-3. If you want to check it out come on down.

Wow what a crazy day and a half it has been.

Yesterday:
Worked outside in the heat, left work, picked up steel in Spring Valley Ranch, went home and unloaded, drove down to Black Forest, picked up my Dad's truck, drove home, and loaded up for a road trip.

Today:
Drove up to Gypsum, Colorado, picked up a heavy duty trailer for my scrapping business, stopped in Arvada, loaded a 600 lb wood stove by myself, drove to Greenwood Village, picked up a giant chuck of wood by myself, convinced a property owner to part with an old tractor attachment, loaded said attachment by hand, drove home, unhooked that trailer, hooked up the horse trailer, took Dad's truck and horse trailer back to Black Forest, and drove home. 13 hours, 475 miles, and a couple mishaps today alone.

So why am I telling you all of this? For three reasons. First there is a lot more that goes into country living and having animals than meets the eye. Sometimes the things you have to do to make the ends meet have nothing to do with your animals. Second, to tell you that if you want to have this life too, it is possible. It is a lot of time, sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears, but you can do it too. Plus if you want to see the real workhorses, go talk to an actual rancher or farmer that does it for a living. All that they have is tide up in it, not just part of their income like me. Third, to say thank you to all those who have contributed or helped me get all this done, especially my Dad, I have already driven his new truck more than him.

As always if you our someone you know has scrap, lead acid batteries, things they are looking to buy, sell or trade let me know.

So in a moment of countryboy ingenuity, entrepreneurial spirit, and sheer dumb luck, I kinda had a crazy idea. It has morphed into a new enterprise. It is way more successful than I could have imagined. What is it you ask?

Well, I come and pick up people's old car, truck, tractor, and other batteries. People are happy not to have to deal with them or to have them out of their way and I make a couple bucks on each of them. In the last two weeks I've collected Well over 150 batteries.

So if you or anyone you know has old batteries, I would love to take them. I will accept any battery that came out of anything as long as it's a lead acid battery. I have had batteries out of wheelchairs, kids toys, generators, atvs, motorcycles, and so much more. A bunch of the ones I picked up tonight came out of a server battery backup for a medical office building.

Thank you so much for spreading the word!

I thought I had shared these photos already but I guess not 🤦‍♂️. About 2 weeks ago Willow got her annual hair cut.

I don't think she looks as cute with no hair but it is for her health.

Enjoy the before and after photos.

Friday was a busy day. It started early with hauling off 5500 lbs of steel and ended late after a shearing day with 52 alpacas and llamas. It was a long but productive day.

In a plot twist I also had an amazing surprise as well. Some of you may remember Fin, the suri alpaca who belonged to Melisa's Aunt. He left the ranch last summer and I never knew where he went. Well his new owners brought him to the shearing day. It was the highlight of my day to reconnect with him and know he is well cared for.

Enjoy the photos!

Well it was been a crazy week. The chicken pen and coop are almost done, Willow got her annual hair cut (I think she looks way better before), I picked up a 3rd trailer full of scrap metal, I drove 2.5 hours yesterday to get a new (used) w**d sprayer, and there was something else.... What was it again? Oh yeah I remember. I have a craft fair in Highlands Ranch today. 🤦‍♂️ Well here we go.

Our Paca Passion

We are Tanner and Melisa Lindt and we have a passion for alpacas! We both have an affection for animals of many kinds. Lola Bear, our Great Pyrenees, was the first animal to join our lives. After getting used to living with (basically) a polar bear, we knew we wanted more animals, however. Tanner grew up with livestock and Melisa grew up in the suburbs always wanting livestock. So the question was, what sort of livestock would we get? Tanner wanted cattle. Melisa wanted alpacas. We now have alpacas.

Although this “paca” passion began with Melisa, we both now greatly enjoy these wonderful, funny, adorable animals. In fact, we are sharing our love of alpacas by offering handmade alpaca fiber products, livestock, and personalized alpaca services.
