So recently my wife went to a divorce lawyer seeking a divorce. The lawyer ask her if she had grounds. She replied, "Yes, 20 acres."
I mean do you have a grudge? She replied, "No! we have a carport" He said, "You misunderstand, does he beat you up?" She replied, "No, I'm always up before he is."
The lawyer then ask, "What do you really think the problem is here?" Her response, "My husband says I don't communicate well."
Life after 52 years with a woman I adore.

So as a few have noticed I have scaled way back on the longhorn side of the house. (thank you to those that have checked in on me) Bottom line is I am OK but felt the need to do something with a Golf Glove business I own. I've basically ignored it while I've been on my longhorn journey and have decided it's time to pay some attention to it.
So the day after I decide it's time to do it, as God always does, he takes care of me. A company that evaluates golf equipment (MyGolfSpy.com) that has a huge following, ask me if I would like to submit my glove for a review. MyGolfSpy.com rated our glove ad the "Best Value" for 2024 and we were 3rd out of the 46 they tested. We even rated higher than Titleist which is insane.

It is truly an honor and is very humbling to have received the 2023 Dave Evans BREEDER OF THE YEAR Award. It took a lot of hard work and support from so many good people. I know I will unintentionally leave someone out that certainly deserves recognition, but I do want to acknowledge the help of some of the people in the longhorn industry who were there in the beginning of my journey and shared their knowledge and support.

My first real advisor was Suzanne Torkildsen. In the beginning and to this day, I still chuckle at sitting next to her and her slapping my bidding hand. Even so, I ended up buying 9 cows because it was so much fun to bid on what turned out to be a not-so-great selection of animals even though Suzanne did her best to stop me.

Soon to follow in my journey were John and Debra Helm who gave me tons of advice about what not to do. Again, I initially ignored the advice because it was so much fun to buy. It is not uncommon for new breeders to make the same mistakes; but had I listened, I could have saved myself a lot of time and money.

Then along came Dale Hunt, who was probably the first person that gave me his wisdom that I completely soaked in from the beginning. With the money I was spending and getting nowhere, I recognized that it was time to get serious. Dale told me to "find a direction." Great Advice!

While the general path was to "make your way with cows," I was fascinated with bulls. At that point, Mark Hubbell came into the picture selling me Hubbells Jeremiah 29:11. I later partnered with him on Hubbells 20 Gauge and will always consider both decisions to be great ones.

Jimmy Jones, Terry King, and Nancy Dunn followed. I met them when I became interested in futurities. My initial endeavors were less than successful, and I was discouraged. They gave me the best advice I could have gotten at the time. "If your animals are in the top 50%, you are making headway and moving in the right direction." Bottom line, don't get discouraged just because you don't win. Focus on where your animals fell short and work on correcting the shortcomings.

John and Christy Randolph always made themselves available for my many questions, and their advice was rock solid. You can learn a lot from following John around a futurity and checking out what he likes. It gave me a clear picture of what to look for in an animal.

Ann Gravett introduced me to a whole new side of the industry by attending her sales on the East Coast. To me, she sets the standard on what this industry should be about. I will always say attending one of her sales should be on your bucket list.

Finally, I must mention Chase Vasut, Dylan Skarpa and Ben Stone. While they never give me the elder respect I most certainly deserve, they have always been there to support me and, even on a rare occasion, give me some worthwhile wise remark to think about.

There are so many more people who have played a role as I have made my way to this moment; but, as you can see, it has already become a novel. Please just know that I respect you and thank you for your contribution to this wild and fulfilling journey.

With what happened in NY this last week shedding light on the types of criminals crossing our borders freely, heads are beginning to turn. Some on the left are beginning to see this crap isn't working out so well. Let there be no mistake while thousands of misfits like those illegals in NY have crossed our borders, more concerning to me are the ones laying low from every bad actor country, that wishes us harm, you can imagine.

Don't think for a second our enemies aren't flooding our country with all the bad guys they can while we are being held hostage from protecting ourselves by our own government - the government that is more interested in power than protecting our country. The government that has all the protection they need being paid for by our tax dollars. Not to mention the incredible wealth, in the millions, they obtain while on a $174,000-dollar average salary that affords them even more ability to shield themselves from what's going on for us average folk.

I can't get the picture out of my mind from a reporter who asked a middle eastern man crossing the border what his name was. He was arrogant and defiant. "What!! you don't know my name?" to be followed up with a very threatening statement of "YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME. EVERYONE WILL KNOW MY NAME." These are the type I'm concerned about.

Make no mistake, we will see potentially more 9/11 type events only this time it will be on multiple targets all at one time. Make no mistake we CAN be crippled from within, starting with our power grid.

Japan didn't attempt to invade the U.S. during WW2 because they said it would be a disaster because every American had a gun. That's still pretty much a true statement, and it will be us protecting ourselves if these factions decide they can attack us from within.

Only if we have a change in leadership will I feel we are remotely close to being safe , I don't see the current inept government protecting us.

GOD, please bless America and protect us from the evil within.

Well, the futurity season is finally over for me. It's been a ton of work and countless hours on the road. My goal for this year was to see if I could keep 20 Gauge the "Bull of the Year" two years in a row. I think I accomplished that; but along the way, I've had the lead (unexpectedly) for "Cow of the Year". That was at the beginning of the year, and she dropped out of 1st for most of the year but currently is in the lead again. [Amazingly, she only had one heifer of age, FHR 20G's Iron Symbol, to represent her.] How cool would it be to win both titles in the same year. Unfortunately, I think she will lose that lead at the final bell; but for this day and time, she is in the lead and I currently hold the lead in "Bull and Cow of the Year" - an accomplishment, frankly, I never would have dreamed possible when I started this journey. As I said, for this day, I get to enjoy those titles and what I've accomplished; and if she loses the title knowing I gave it my best, I'm okay with it. On a side note, my wife asked me if I had it to do over would I do all the work again; and my answer is Yes. But I won't be doing it again because it takes away too much time from what's most important...family.

I knew this girl was going to be special, and she secured that thought with 3 First place winnings this weekend at the 2023 ITLA Championship Show. Thank you, Alissa Butler for showing her and adding your talents to making those First place finish's a reality. You are a special young lady.

She asked him, 'How much are you selling the eggs for?'
The old seller replied, '$.25 an egg, Madam.'
She said to him, 'I will take 6 eggs for $1.25 or I will leave.'
The old seller replied, 'Come take them at the price you want. Maybe, this is a good beginning because I have not been able to sell even a single egg today.'

She took the eggs and walked away feeling she has won. She got into her fancy car and went to a posh restaurant with her friend. There, she and her friend, ordered whatever they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered. Then she went to pay the bill. The bill costed her $45.00 She gave $50.00 and asked the owner of the restaurant to keep the change.

This incident might have seemed quite normal to the owner but, very painful to the poor egg seller.

The point is,
Why do we always show we have the power when we buy from the needy ones? And why do we get generous to those who do not even need our generosity?

I once read somewhere:

'My father used to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he even used to pay extra for them. I got concerned by this act and asked him why does he do so? Then my father replied, "It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my child”

I know most of you won't share this message but if you feel that people need to see this, then do spread this message.
