Pyrenean Mastiffs of Pu'uwai O Pokela Farm Located in Kula, Maui, HI. Pups are exposed to livestock, agricultural practices and family life. PMs move seamlessly between being working and family dogs.

The Mastin del Pirineo (Pyrenean Mastiff) is
an ancient and rare breed of Livestock Guardian Dog originating in Spain. Known for strength, loyally and their protective but gentle nature. Our pups are exposed to Kunekune pigs, dwarf Nigerian goats, several species of fowl, horses, cats (barn and house) as well as our young daughter and her friends.

Oh Lala - what a wild weekend you gave us all.

We are fine here at the farm, fortunate to have fared well through this weather.
Our thoughts are with our friends on Big Island where the impact was severe in most areas, catastrophic in some. We have placed 10 pups on Big Island and hope that they and all their families, farms and homesteads are safe.

Our sweet Calypso of Pu’uwai O Pokela is 12 weeks old!
She was such a good girl getting her vaccines and a little recheck. A pretty, perfect patient. She’s 36lbs of love. Her surgical site is healing wonderfully and she is set to have her sutures removed next Monday.

Caramia and Carlisle’s mom sent this video from the first day on their new farm. It made our hearts smile. Sometimes as a breeder it is hard to be sure that you are setting your pups up for success in their new environments. Have you exposed them to enough? To the right things at the right times? Have you assessed which pup is best suited for each new family and situation?

Quite a week on the Farm!

First thing first - we are two days late but would like to say to our wonderful Arcoiris de Hitt - happy, happy fourth birthday!! Iris is a fantastic dog and we love her so. 💖🎉🎂🌺.
We got some great updates from Koa (Cosimo) and Scout (Cato) and are thrilled they are doing so well.
On Thursday we sent Caramia and Carlisle to their new family and farm. They traveled safe and sound - Mahalo nui loa to Hawaiian Airlines Cargo - and they fit right in as if they’d always been there.
Calypso was happy to have full attention and be with the big dogs all the time. Overnight she got a wound of some type on her back and it became severely infected causing dead tissue. She had to have the dead tissue surgically removed and now has a mostly shaved rump and many stitches. Our Vet staff was amazing, rushing her in for the procedure very quickly. The removal went perfectly and she is going to be just fine. She is an absolute trooper - taking it all in stride, still the smartest sweetest little thing despite the ordeal.
Hoping next week is less eventful. 🤣.

There was a beautiful little anuenue at the airport to send him off with aloha. A plane that shares his name carried him safely across the ocean to his forever ohana. He explored his new place, was already on lookout over his little girl and then took a well earned rest. 🌺

The past three weeks have flown by and now our fun is almost through. Our “C” litter pups have been a joy since birth and as they begin to go to their new homes my heart is full and happy.

Today Cato, now called Scout, started his life with his family. He is staying on Maui and will keep the Axis deer away from his parents’ crops and orchard.
Next week Cosimo, now called Koa, will make his way to Northern California where he will protect a fancy koi pond from marauding raccoons.
The following week Caramia and Carlisle, still called Caramia and Carlisle 😉, will fly over to Big Island to join their aunt and two uncles to guard cattle, Kunes and poultry from wild boar and feral dogs.
Calypso is staying put here with us. She will learn about the world and the work from our pack.
Each of them will be adored beyond measure.

This is all a breeder can ever hope for - placing pups with loving families who will provide them the opportunity to do what these dogs were created for.

Patrimonio Un Hombre Llamado Otto.

This fine beast turned one year old today.
Otto is growing into such a wonderful dog; intelligent, athletic, attentive and loving. He is 125-ish pounds of fun-tastic fluff. He has found his big boy bark and means business when he needs to. He is a joy to have as a part of our pack.
