🥒🍅 FARM STAND UPDATE!! 🍅🥒

Life has been HECTIC this week and, quite frankly, I do NOT have time for this garden right now. 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ But apparently the garden didn’t get the memo because it just keeps producing!

So PLEASE… come buy some amazing, homegrown local produce and don’t let all my hard work go to waste! 😂🙌🏻

The stand is STOCKED with:
🥒 Tons and tons of cucumbers ( even a 25cent basket)
💛 Yellow squash
💚 Zucchini
🍅 And I even have some tomatoes out there!!

Seriously… come clean me out. 😂 I promise I won’t be offended!

Saturday was the day… the meat birds were officially off to freezer camp! 🐓🪓🍗❄️

50 birds processed, packaged, and tucked into the freezer — one step closer to filling our freezer and yours with homegrown goodness. 🙌🏻❤️

Huge shoutout to Joe, who took on butcher, gutter, AND packaging duty. 💪🏻 It was a loooong day that turned into an even longer night, but we got every single one done!

And a little note to spring Suzy:
50 MEAT BIRDS AT ONE TIME IS WAY TOO MANY, SUZY!! 😳🤦🏻‍♀️😂😂
Maybe remember that when those cute little fluffy chicks show up and you think, “Ohhh, 50 isn’t that many…” 🙄😂

There’s just something about raising your own food from start to finish. From those tiny chicks arriving in the mail, to moving them onto grass, feeding and caring for them every single day, and finally putting food in the freezer.

It’s not always glamorous. It’s definitely not always easy. And sometimes it means processing chickens until dark. 😂 But knowing exactly where our food came from and what went into raising it?

Worth every bit of it. ❤️

Yesterday’s garden haul…. 😍🙌🏻

Most of my cauliflower decided to bolt on me 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 but THIS ONE?! She was gorgeous, so I just let her do her thing! 😍 And can we talk about that CABBAGE?! 😳😳😳 Holy hell!

The tomatoes are finally starting to roll in 🍅, my jalapeños are BUMPING 🌶️🙌🏻, and the cukes… well, apparently they have absolutely NO plans of stopping anytime soon. 🥒🛑😂

Dry weather, weeds, and all… this garden just keeps on giving. ❤️ There’s nothing better than walking out back and coming in with a basket full of homegrown goodness!

While Joe was checking corn!! 🌽👀 I was over here checking milkweed! 🪴🦋

I managed to find 4 monarch caterpillars on just 3 plants — and I’m talking one of the smallest ones ever!! 😍🐛✨

It’s always amazing how something so tiny can be so exciting… especially when you’re out there really looking closely and finding little signs of life everywhere. 💚🌿

Two totally different “field checks” happening at the same time on the farm today — corn in one direction, monarch babies in the other! 🌽🦋😂

Last night Joe picked an ear of corn out back to see how far along it was… 🌽👀
Well, on our way back we drove by the pasture, and apparently the girls needed to be part of the official corn taste-testing committee. 😂🐮

Everybody had to come over and check out Joe’s treat, and Patsy ended up getting a sample… along with Gertie — or “Doll,” as Joe calls her. 😂❤️

Overall consensus from the girls: the corn is DELICIOUS. 🌽🤤😂 Not sure how much they cared about whether it was ready for harvest… they were just wondering when the next sample was coming. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Chicken in the oven with roasted garlic baby potatoes, beans on the stove for dinner AND to freeze… and suddenly the stove goes out. 😳🤦🏻‍♀️

Out. Of. Propane. 😂😂

I knew we were getting close, but we were really hoping we could limp that tank along until we got the new furnace and real tanks put in. Apparently the propane tank had other plans. 🤷🏻‍♀️

So here we are… redneck engineering at its finest — hooked up to a baby propane tank to keep us going until we can get the 100-gallon tank filled. 😂🙌🏻

Nothing like trying to cook dinner and preserve the garden harvest while simultaneously troubleshooting farm life. Never a dull moment around here!

Beans…. 🫘💚 Are you team canned beans or team frozen beans?!

Me? Frozen all the way! 🙋🏻‍♀️ There’s just something about that fresh crunch that gets me every damn time! 🤤

So… another batch snipped, blanched, bagged and headed into the freezer for this winter! 🙌🏻 One picking at a time, we’re stocking that freezer with a little taste of summer. ❤️

And I’m pretty sure there are PLENTY more beans where these came from… 😳😂

Fairy eggs!! 🥚🧚‍♀️✨

You know what that means?! The new girls are officially starting to join the workforce! 😂🙌🏻🐔

These teeny tiny little eggs are always the first sign that the younger hens are starting to lay… and after waiting for them to earn their keep, I’m pretty damn excited to see them! 😂

Hopefully this means egg production is about to start climbing again and we’ll be keeping that farm stand stocked! 🥚❤️

Come on, ladies… Mama’s got egg cartons to fill! 😂👏🏻
