Q&A

What ages do you serve?
I work with students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through high school, adjusting lessons to be age-appropriate and skill-based.

Do children need prior cooking experience?
No experience is required. Classes are designed for beginners through more advanced learners. We mostly work through simple recipes, where the kids follow instructions, implement, safety, and cleanup skills.

What skills will my child learn?
Students learn basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, knife skills (age-appropriate), following recipes, teamwork (for group classes ), individual, independence, and confidence in the kitchen.

Class Structure & Scheduling

How are classes structured?
Classes can be offered in small groups or individual sessions, depending on family needs, age, and learning style.

How long are classes?
Class length varies by age group and attention span, typically ranging from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Is the schedule flexible?
Yes. I offer flexible scheduling and work with families and charter schools to find times that work best.

Are classes ongoing or session-based?
Classes are ongoing , but based on attendance. In order to begin a group class, I need a minimum of three students to be signed up for that class.

⭐️ When signing up for classes, you are required to sign up for a minimum of four classes.

Safety & Environment

Is your home kitchen safe for children?
Yes. My kitchen is organized, child-friendly, and designed with safety as a priority. Safety rules are taught and reinforced in every class.

How do you handle food allergies?
All allergies and dietary restrictions are discussed prior to enrollment. Recipes can be modified when possible to accommodate student needs.

What is the student-to-teacher ratio?
I intentionally keep classes small to ensure safety, engagement, and individualized instruction. It is a 1:8 ratio, with the exception of birthday parties and event.

Curriculum & Learning Goals

Is this class educational or recreational?
It’s both. Lessons are structured with educational goals while keeping learning fun, hands-on, and engaging. For example, we will discuss fractions while we measure are ingredients.

Does this count as an elective/enrichment?
Yes. Many families use cooking classes as enrichment or elective credit through charter schools. But check with your charter school to see what their requirements are.

Charter School & Enrollment Questions

Do you work with charter schools?
Yes, I partner with charter schools to support students’ educational goals.

Do you accept charter funds?
Yes. We are currently enrolled with Blue Ridge, Gorman, and compass.

Costs & Materials

What is included in the class fee?
Most ingredients and basic supplies are included. Any additional costs will be communicated in advance.

Do parents need to provide anything?
Occasionally students may be asked to bring a container for leftovers or specific dietary substitutes.

What is the cost of the class?
Group sessions $60 per class with a minimum of four classes upon sign.
Private sessions range from $70-$80 with a minimum of four classes upon sign-up.

Parent Involvement & Expectations

Do parents stay during class?
This depends on the child’s age and comfort level. Younger students may require a parent nearby. But parents are always welcome to stay and make themselves comfortable while we explore the kitchen.

What behavior expectations do you have?
Kindness, respect, listening, and kitchen safety are required to ensure a positive experience for everyone.

Health & Cleanliness

How do you maintain cleanliness and hygiene?
Handwashing, clean workspaces, and proper food handling are part of every lesson.

What happens if a child is sick?
Students should stay home if they are ill. Makeup options may be available depending on the situation.

Business & Legal Questions (Often Asked)

Are you licensed or insured?
Yes, I operate my business in compliance with local regulations and maintain appropriate insurance.

Philosophy & Values

What makes your program different?
My background in child development, combined with a love for cooking and hands-on learning, allows me to create a warm, flexible, and confidence-building environment.
