This year we tried a new bean variety called Romano - an Italian green bean. It’s sweet, juicy and delicious raw or cooked. Some recipes will even use this as their pasta substitute as it soaks in juices and hold flavor.

They grow oversized, but that just means a little goes a long way. I’ll rip the beans into a few pieces and sauté with onions. YUM.

We add them in our quiche, soups, salads. Use them as decoration on cakes and desserts. You can candy them or roll them in butter. So many ideas!

Our hearts are full from everyone who showed up and supported the Calumet Farmers Market on Saturday. It is more important than ever to support your community and farmers. We are here for YOU, growing with safe practices for YOU!

That being said, the farm is farming. We are grateful spending some time in the fields together and witness blue sky this afternoon.

Insane heat, bugs, and now unhealthy air. We are exhausted and frustrated but the farm doesn’t stop. Feeding the community doesn’t stop.

💕If you’re uncomfortable to go out in these conditions, please let us know and we can arrange a pick-up/delivery for you tomorrow or over the weekend. ($20 minimum order). We accept Venmo, cash, check and Food as Medicine coupons.

🥬We will be at the Calumet Farmers Market Saturday 10-2p.

Today we crimped our buckwheat cover crop. This technique helps us suppress weeds and builds a natural mulch which adds organic matter to our soil.

The tool we used is the SPT snow spork - a tool that D wanted for building snow parks and (convinced me he would use for farming). And here we are. It’s seen more soil and has become a go-to tool for several farm needs.
