My wonderful husband spent the other day w**ding our whole garden. ❤️ I am so thankful for him and his willingness to help us. 🥰

Picked some beans, corn, and berries at my parents orchard yesterday and today will be spent preserving it all.

Someone asked me if I still have rabbits. 🐇

I do still have Java, my Silver Marten Mini Rex buck. But all my Silver Foxes are gone, and so far, I am not looking to get a doe for Java.

This season is about gardening, house remodel, and learning new skills with my husband. As much as I loved having rabbits, and still stand by all the benefits of raising them, my priorities have shifted.

Now that’s not to say I will never have rabbits again. We both equally see the benefits of having them and are planning to get some in the future. But for now we are enjoying having Java as our professional w**d eater, and garden fertilizer producer. And it’s nice to have him hop around with me when I am doing things in the garden.

So for now, I will enjoy watching old videos, and doing research on what our next breed will be. Because as much as I loved having my Silver Fox, there maybe one (or two😏) new breeds making their appearance in years to come on here.

Filling up the canning shelves, one can at a time!

I recently got a question about if we are canning to sell, or canning for ourselves.

The answer is for ourselves.

We are trying to make the majority of what we eat ourselves, and now, as the garden is starting to produce more, we are planning to make as much as we possibly can. Apples are starting to come in at my parents place, and we will make applesauce, and apple pie filling.

Potatoes are coming in and we will be canning potatoes to use for mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, soup base, and to use in potato bread.

Green beans are slowly coming in and besides freezing, we will be canning them, and putting into soup bases as well.

I see a lot of people freezing food, which is fine, and we will freeze some as well. But it’s nice to know that when the power goes out for awhile, we have food already made up ready to just heat up on the stove (or an open fire 😏) and we don’t have to worry about it spoiling.

Happy National Sunflower Day 🌻

Sunflowers have always been my favorite flower.

I would love to grow even more flowers next year. What are some of your favorite flowers?

My husband made a dream of mine come true. 🥰
I have been wanting better shelves put up in the pantry, preferably before canning season was in full swing.
I asked, and I received probably the BEST shelves ever! If a tornado were to sweep this house away the shelves would most definitely remain.

Jelly and applesauce and potatoes, oh my. 🥰
Today was a very long but good day. Between me, my mother and my husband we got 10 jars of “Wildberry” Jelly (red and black raspberry and blueberry mixed together), 16 quarts of potatoes, and 5 or 6 quarts and 6 or 8 pints of applesauce.
I am exhausted but excited to can even more in the weeks to come!!!!
